One person has died, with 16 others sustaining injuries in a road accident on the Peki–Asikuma highway near Mawutor Inn.
Reports suggest the accident occurred when a Toyota Hiace bus (registration GT 7012-24) reportedly suffered a rear tyre burst, causing it to somersault.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in a Facebook post on Friday, February 13, announced the news.
According to them, personnel from the Peki Fire Station, led by ADO I Godwin Gbedemah, swiftly responded to the scene and rescued the trapped victims.
The sixteen injured passengers were made up of eight males, seven females and one child.
The GNFS detailed that the injured were handed over to the National Ambulance Service and transported to the Peki Government Hospital for treatment.
Also, the GNFS confirmed that one of the victims later died at the hospital.
However, the remaining sixteen casualties are in stable condition.
In related news, one person has died, with at least 37 others sustaining injuries, following a fatal accident in Suhum Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region.
Reports suggest that the incident occurred on Sunday, 11 January.
The accident occurred between a 40-seater Zhong Tong bus with registration number AS 7022-21 and a Man Diesel truck with registration number GW 3969-U.
According to eyewitnesses, the 40-seater Zhong Tong bus was travelling at high speed when it collided with the truck.
Reports suggest that 21 male and 17 female passengers in the bus were injured, with occupants of the truck escaping unhurt.
ADO II Bernard Boamah, leading the GNFS rescue crew, arrived at the scene at 7:07 a.m.
The deceased and injured were extracted from the wreckage and taken to the Suhum Government Hospital.
“The front of the bus was extensively damaged, indicating the severity of the impact, while the rear of the truck sustained minor damage. Our team worked swiftly to ensure the safety of road users and provide timely assistance to the victims,” ADO II Boamah stated.
Meanwhile, Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, and the Deputy Minister of Communications and Digital Technology, Mohammed Adams Sukparu, were also involved in a road accident.

According to reports, the accident happened in the early hours of Thursday, February 12.
The two ministers in their convoys were travelling to the Upper West Region to attend the 40th anniversary celebrations of Tumu College of Education and Jahan College of Education.
