The Accra High Court has remanded five suspects into police custody over their alleged role in impersonating President John Dramani Mahama, Lordina Mahama, and others.
Reports suggest the suspects created and circulated high-fidelity AI-generated deepfake content used to impersonate President John Dramani Mahama, First Lady Lordina Mahama, and other public figures to defraud the public on platforms including TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
The information suggests the five remanded are expected to reappear in court on April 14, 2026.
The accused have been identified as Bernard Mensah alias Charity Quaicoe, Ahmed Mensah, Nana Boafo Freba, Blessed Sam, and Ato Mensah Ebenezer.

The group reportedly impersonated high-profile figures, including John Dramani Mahama, Lordina Mahama, John Dumelo, Kwadwo Nkansah Lilwin, Vivian Jill, Asamoah Gyan, Kofi Kinaata, and Bill Asamoah across platforms like TikTok, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
The accused include Bernard Mensah alias Charity Quaicoe, Ahmed Mensah, Nana Boafo Freba, Blessed Sam, and Ato Mensah Ebenezer. Authorities say the scheme was used to deceive unsuspecting victims online.
The suspects are expected to reappear in court on April 14, 2026.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the news stated, “AI deepfakes are no joke 😳… Using them to impersonate President Mahama and others to scam people is serious. Good move by Accra High Court. Let’s see how this case unfolds”.

“This can never happen on x(formerly known as Twitter). It’s always only on those media apps…”, another X user added.

In related news, the Ghana Police Service in Yendi, some months ago, announced that it had arrested Abdul Rahaman Zakaria and one other suspect for allegedly impersonating Sharaf Mahama, son of the President, on TikTok.
According to the Police, the suspects used the fake account to carry out personal activities.
The Police further prompted investigations that led to their arrest.
Also, three people have been arrested for impersonating the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, and other prominent personalities.
The three were arrested in the Dabala and Sogakope areas of the Volta Region.
They were arrested by the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team following an intelligence-led operation covering Sogakope, Dzodzent, and Penyi areas.
The suspect has been identified as Gideon Awudi (25), Edem Soku (33), and Judith Soku (31).
The three impersonators are also suspected of engaging in mobile money fraud, credit card fraud, airtime scams, and online sales fraud across various social media platforms.
All three suspects are currently in custody and assisting authorities with ongoing investigations.
