NewsNPP establish committee to examine CRC final proposals

Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the NPP, has announced that the party has established a committee to examine the Constitutional Review Committee(CRC) proposals submitted to President John Mahama.

According to Henry Nana Boakye, the NPP General Secretary, has directed the committee to study the proposals and advise the National Council of the Party accordingly.

In a Facebook post, Nana B wrote, “As part of participating in the Constitutional Review process, the leadership of the NPP constituted a joint committee led by Hon. Anyimadu(Ranking member, Constitutional and Legal Affairs Committee of Parliament) and Frank Davies Esq. (Chairman, Constitutional & Legal Committee, NPP) to present proposals to the Constitutional Review Committee(CRC).

Following the submission of the CRC’s final proposals to the President yesterday, the General Secretary of the Party has directed the joint committee to study the proposals and advise the National Council of the Party accordingly.

Other members of the Joint committee were Hon. Hassan Tampuli, Hon OB Amoah, Hon. Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, Hon Kojo Oppong Nkrumah,  Gary Nimako ESQ, Martin Adjei Mensah Korsah, Hon Dr Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, Hon Fati Abubakar, and Hanifa Adjoa Yahaya.

All party members are encouraged to be cautious with their commentary on the proposals of the CRC as we await the outcome of the party’s joint committee’s study. The position of the Party on the final proposals submitted yesterday will soon be made public”.

Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has said that the report of the Constitution Review Committee will be implemented starting from early 2026.

According to President Mahama, the Constitution Review Committee report implementation will be done in a bipartisan manner.

Speaking after receiving the final report from the Committee in Accra on Monday, December 22, Mahama stated, “This time we said let’s choose the committee very carefully, so that it’s a committee that Ghanaians have trust in, so that when the report comes it would be nonpartisan, it would not have been influenced by any political interest, so that it would make it easier for all of us to come together and move the process forward,” he noted.

“As soon as we resume early next year, we’re moving from the constitutional review process into the implementation process, and so early next year we’ll announce an implementation committee”, he added.

Also, President Mahama labelled the proposal by the Constitution Review Committee as revolutionary and radical.

According to President Mahama, some of the recommendations are revolutionary and radical, but in the interest of Ghana’s democracy.

President Mahama stressed that the recommendations are necessary to strengthen governance and restore public confidence in democratic institutions, noting that several countries in the subregion are experiencing coups.

Mahama stated, “I think that many of the recommendations you’ve made are quite revolutionary. Some are quite radical, but I think it’s in the interest of our democracy”.

“It is important for us to let our citizens know that democratic governance is still better than any other form of governance.”

He further added, “You were carefully chosen for your integrity, your credibility, and we haven’t had the experience of constitutional review committees before and the fact that at the end of it we had been unable to agree how to move the process forward”.
