Two women caught on video assulting 12-year-old girl plead not guilty, remanded for 2 weeks

The La District Court has remanded two women arrested by the Accra Regional Police Command in connection with a viral video which captured them assulting 12-year-old girl.

Precious Giftan Mesopeh, 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, 25, are facing charges of conspiracy, assault and cruelty to a child.

The two accused persons’ mother, Priscilla Novishie Wanyo, is currently at large and is being pursued by the police.

The two, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded in custody for two weeks.

The court also rejected a bail application filed by their lawyer.

According to the Prosecution’s facts, the victim often visited the Mesopeh household to run errands and assist with domestic chores, but on December 30, 2025, the victim had a disagreement with the accused persons’ seven-year-old brother.

This led to a physical confrontation during which the boy was injured. The boy later reported the incident to his family, after which the accused went in search of the victim and assaulted her.

Meanwhile, the incident is said to have occurred on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at the Roman JHS School area.

According to the Police statement, the victim’s mother reported to the station showing visible marks of assault.

The victim’s mother disclosed that three women attacked her daughter without provocation.

The police statement read, “The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two women in connection with the alleged assault of a 12-year-old girl at La Roman JHS School area on Tuesday, 30th December 2025.

The incident was reported to the Police by the mother of the victim, who appeared at the station with her daughter, bearing visible marks of assault. The complainant alleged that three women assaulted her daughter without any provocation.

Upon receipt of the complaint, the Police obtained a statement from the complainant and issued a Police Medical Report Form to the victim for medical examination.

Preliminary investigations revealed that earlier the same day, the victim had an altercation with a seven-year-old boy, identified as Horm Giftan Mesopeh, who is related to the suspects. Following the incident, the suspects allegedly went to the victim’s house, brought her to their residence, and assaulted her.

On Wednesday, 31st December 2025, the complainant led the Police to arrest two of the suspects, identified as Precious Giftan Mesopeh, aged 22, and Princess Giftan Mesopeh, aged 25. The third suspect, identified as Priscilla Novishie Wornyo, aged 49, a fashion designer by profession and the mother of the two arrested persons, was reported to have travelled to the Volta Region

The two arrested suspects have been formally charged and are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations. They will be put before the court on Monday, 5th January 2025. Police efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest the third suspect to aid the investigation

The Regional Police Command cautions the general public against resorting to violence in the resolution of disputes, particularly matters involving children. Parents, guardians, and community members are advised to seek lawful means of addressing grievances and to report incidents to the Police promptly. The Command further urges the public to respect the law and protect the rights and welfare of children at all times”.
