The Nsawam District Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspected kidnappers in an intelligence-led operation.

According to the Police, the operation led to the rescue of two men who were abducted while travelling from Accra to Anyinam.

The Police revealed that at  3:20 p.m on January 10, 2026, they received information that the victims had been kidnapped with the suspects demanding GH¢400,000 from the victims’ family.

Reports from the Police revealed negotiation between the family and the kidnappers ended with the kidnappers demanding GH¢5,000 as an initial payment, which allowed the Police to track and apprehend the suspects.

A police source stated, “The suspects were tactically lured to a joint near the Suhum Roundabout, where a joint operation involving officers from Nsawam and Suhum led to their arrest”.

The five suspects, identified as Suleman Salifu, Godfred Owusu, Antwi Bismark, Anas Salis and Gyamfi Isaac.

They were arrested in an unregistered Acura 4×4 vehicle.

The two victims recused have been identified as Seidu Sambiane, 28 and Ibrahim Alhassan, 42, who were rescued unharmed.

Also, forged currency notes, cash believed to be part of the ransom payment, a foreign pistol, a cutlass, talismans and amulets, and several mobile phones were uncovered in the suspect vehicle after a search was conducted.  

Meanwhile, the Police added that the suspects are in custody, assisting with investigations.

In related news, the Ghana Police Service has intercepted over 1,000 rounds of ammunition on a Savelugu-bound bus.

According to the police, a 42-year-old commercial bus driver, Mohammed Gzali, and his mate, Mohammed Jabir, have been arrested in connection with transporting a large quantity of ammunition on a bus bound for Savelugu.

Reports suggest the suspects were arrested on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at about 7:00 p.m.

The Officers on duty at the Kantanso–Asankare Police Barrier intercepted the Savelugu-bound bus with registration number AK 1309–21.

The Kia Grand Bird bus was travelling from Accra to Tamale and onward to Savelugu.

Acting on the instructions of the Divisional Commander, the Police conducted a search which uncovered a fertiliser sack containing 1,050 rounds of AAA and BB cartridge ammunition concealed with passengers’ luggage.

During interrogation, the bus driver claimed the sack was handed to him at the bus terminal by an unidentified individual as a parcel to be delivered to a person identified as ‘Oboye’.

The Police have revealed the driver and his mate are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
