Stephen Amoah, the Nhyiaeso Member of Parliament, has debunked claims attributed to him in which he claimed somebody fought against him becoming the finance minister.
In a viral video, Dr Stephen Amoah had earlier claimed former President Akufo-Addo initially preferred him for the Finance Minister position, but his appointment was blocked due to pressure for him to appoint a northerner as Finance Minister.
Speaking to Serwaa Amihere on GHOne, Stephen Amoah clarified that he never said that he wanted to be a finance minister, nor did he say somebody fought against him becoming finance minister.
According to him, someone kicked against former president Akufo-Addo appointing him as Minister of State in charge of Finance.
Stephen Amoah clarified, saying, “I never said that I wanted to be a finance minister,” he stated. “I never said that somebody fought against me becoming finance minister.”
“I said that Nana Addo actually went to a very dignified person and told him that he was going to make me Minister of State in charge of Finance, and somebody kicked against that, preferring his own person,” he explained.
“Did I mention somebody’s name? So why are people taking it and insulting me?”, he asked.
Stephen Amoah further revealed he has been advised to keep quiet regarding the issue, saying, “Is it everything that in public you have to say?” he asked. “I’m a very mature person, and I’ve been advised to keep quiet.”
“Even if something were true, one hundred per cent, I shouldn’t have said it the way or where I said it,” he admitted. “But does that mean I should be insulted the way people are insulting me?”
“They have misrepresented it. They have misconstrued it,” he said. “But I don’t even care.”
Meanwhile, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam has also debunked claims by Dr Stephen Amoah over his appointment as Finance Minister during President Akufo-Addo’s administration.
He added, “Our focus is on preparing Dr Bawumia to become president and govern the country for the benefit of the people. Claims that I was favoured in my appointment are not worth discussing; they are simply pettiness and should not distract us from getting our candidate elected”.
“If my appointment was based on favouritism, then people should know where I am coming from. I have been in this party for a very long time, and those who know me know that I did not support Nana Akufo-Addo; I supported Kufuor and Alan Cash,” he added.
