A renowned surgeon and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, has said the New Patriotic Party (NPP) electing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia again will be a trainwreck.

Speaking in an interview with Bernard Avle on The Point of View on Channel One TV on Monday, January 12, Prof Frimpong-Boateng cautioned the NPP from electing the former Vice President again.

He expressed deep concern about the NPP’s internal processes, citing that the party’s last presidential primaries were he noted that people were intimidated with delegates being bribed just to elect a flagbearer.

Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng stated, “Look at how they elected their last flagbearer — twisting weak people’s hands, bribing delegates, intimidating others. This is the beginning of corruption, and this should not be allowed in any serious institution or any serious party,” he said.

“We lost the elections badly, and we did not deal with the issues that led to the losses, and we still want to go in there. I think that it will be a trainwreck if we elect the old flagbearer,” he stressed.

Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, however, described Dr Bawumia as a nice person, but being nice but noted that being nice alone is not enough to lead Ghana.

He stated, “No, no no. Bawumia is a very nice person, but being nice alone is not enough to lead Nkrumah’s Ghana”.
