Ghanaian dancehall King Shatta Wale has issued a warning against the continuous tarnishing of his brand and fans who support his work.

Shatta Wale noted the years-long pattern of disrespect from the media and public personalities toward his brand and declared that the continuous tarnishing of his brand “MUST stop.”

The Ghanaian dancehall King wrote in a post on Facebook, “Apology noted.

But let this be clearly understood by everyone — the continuous tarnishing of Shatta Wale’s brand MUST stop.

For years, Shatta Wale has carried the voice of the streets, the youth, the forgotten, and the misunderstood. He has represented Ghana globally, created jobs, inspired millions, and built movements where systems failed. Yet some media men, commentators, and people in high places find comfort in attacking his name as if it is sport.

Enough.

This is bigger than music.

This is about respect, fairness, and national maturity.

If we truly want to move forward as a country, then the selective criticism, coded insults, and subtle disrespect towards certain voices must end — from media houses to boardrooms, from talk shows to political spaces”.

Shatta Wale’s statement follows, Awal Mohammed, a member of the  New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Communications Team, who has apologised to fans of Ghanaian dancehall artiste Shatta Wale, commonly known as Shatta Movement, after he labelled them as ‘junkies’.

The NPP communicator came under heavy criticism on social media after remarks he made on JoyNews on January 20, 2026.

Speaking on JoyNews, Awal Mohammed referred to Shatta Wale’s fans who had gathered at the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) during the artiste’s detention as “junkies.”

Following the backlash on social media, Awal Mohammed clarified that the comment was a slip of the tongue.

According to him, he is truly sorry for any offence caused, adding that he did not mean to insult or belittle anyone.

In a Facebook post on January 21, 2026, Awal Mohammed stated, “I appeared on JoyNews yesterday for the morning show. During the debate, while condemning the government’s stringent bail conditions, I inadvertently referred to a section of Shatta Wale supporters as ‘junkies.’

“I want to clarify that I didn’t intend to insult or belittle anyone. The term was unnecessary, and I’m truly sorry for any offence caused. I respect the passion of fans and acknowledge that my choice of words was wrong. It was totally out of sync with my character. I sincerely apologise and hope we can move forward positively,” he wrote.
