“NPP is in my blood” – Gabby Otchere-Darko

A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Otchere-Darko, has said the NPP is in his blood.

According to Gabby Otchere-Darko, his grandfather was JB Danquah, adding that he was also born into the NPP tradition.

He further highlighted that although he may not be active, he still loves the NPP.

Speaking in an interview with Serwaa Amihere on GHOne TV, Gabby Otchere-Darko was asked whether he is still a member of the NPP. He responded, he respomded saying, “ You know what I call myself, I think the NPP is in my blood, my grandfather was JB Danquah, I was born into the tradition, so I have nowhere to go, and I love being where I am.

I may not be active, which I’m not, but of course I am NPP”.

Also, in that same interview, Gabby Otchere-Darko spoke for the first time publicly regarding Ken Ofori-Atta’s ICE detention, he revealed his cousin is doing well.

Gabby Otchere-Darko stressed that he believes Ken would come to Ghana, and know he wants to come to Ghana.

Speaking in an interview on GHOne TV hosted by Serwaa Amihere, Gabby was asked what Ken Ofori-Atta thought of claims that he was responsible for the “unpopular decisions” on Ghana’s economy during the administration of former President Akufo-Addo.

Gabby stated, “I haven’t seen him for a while, so I don’t know.”

When questioned how he felt about the unpopular decision, he added, “I will keep my feelings to myself, I don’t have an opinion I want to share”.

Speaking about Ofori-Atta’s detention, Gabby said that his cousin is a strong man.

He added that his faith would see him through the challenges he is going through.

Serwaa Amihere then questioned Gabby on pictures of Ofori-Atta’s virtual appearance before a US immigration court from his detention centre. While spotting a black jumpsuit, he stated, “He is a very strong man mentally, so I’m sure he is doing well”.

Serwaa Amihere then asked Gabby about the conversation he had with Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Victor Emmanuel Smith, where Gabby is reported to have said that Ken is afraid of returning to Ghana because of how he would be treated.

Gabby responded, saying, “I don’t discuss private conversations publicly, so I don’t wish to discuss it”.

Gabby went on to give the assurance that Ken Ofori-Atta would return to Ghana.

“Why will he not return to Ghana? I believe Ken would come to Ghana, and I know he wants to come to Ghana,” he said.

Meanwhile, a renowned surgeon and former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng, has said he is no longer a member of the current New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Prof Kwabena Frimpong Boateng described the present NPP as fake.

According to Prof Frimpong Boateng, he does not consider himself a member of the current NPP as it no longer reflects the values of the NPP of old.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Point of View on Monday, January 12, Prof Frimpong was questioned if he still sees himself as a member of the NPP. He stated, “The present NPP is not NPP. It is fake. From what I see now, this is not the NPP I used to know.”

“Not the fake one. The real one is there. It is a virtual thing. The members are in the background,” he said.
