A laundry attendant has been remanded into police custody by the Adenta Circuit Court after publishing false news claiming a military plot to kill President John Mahama.
The laundry attendant, identified as Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, 30, posted a video on his TikTok account, @breakingnewsghana.
He claimed two military officers were plotting to overthrow and assassinate President John Dramani Mahama.
In court, the laundry attendant’s plea was not taken, but the court ordered him to remain in custody until his next appearance on February 9, 2026.
The complainant in the case is the Ghana Police Service, with Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo leading the prosecution.
Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, on January 20, 2026, published a video naming Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph as the officers involved in the assassination plot against the president.
He was later arrested the following day at Adjiringanor in Accra.
The laundry attendant, in his caution statement, admitted to making the video; he claimed he had chanced upon a post on social media alleging the assassination plot, which led him to publish it.
He also failed to give the investigators the source of the alleged post.
In related news, the Founder and Leader of the Glorious Word Power Ministries International, Rev Isaac Owusu-Bempah, has warned of a possible coup attempt against President John Dramani Mahama by certain foreign elements.
The man of God boldly told the person planning the alleged coup against Ghana that they would not be successful.
Rev Owusu Bempah, speaking to his congregation about events to expect in 2026, stated, “Certain people have planned, and some of the people who are planning, or have planned, are foreigners who will come into Ghana. What I am saying is something I saw, that they entered this nation when we were not conscious of ourselves as a nation. All of a sudden, we heard there was a coup d’état,” he said.
He added, “Those who are planning that evil and want to stage a coup in this country, this is a warning to you because you will not succeed. And so we will pray about it, but the security agencies we have in this nation must be vigilant.”
Also, President John Mahama has already told the National Peace Council at the Jubilee House that Ghana is not immune to coup d’état.
According to John Mahama, Ghana is not immune to coup d’état, which is why his government is doing their best to make sure that they regain the trust of the people.
He stressed that democratic governance must let citizens have faith that it can deliver development.
