Baba Jamal, an aspiring member of parliament for Ayawaso East, has said he is surprised by the decision of the late Ayawaso East MP, Mahama Naser’s wife, to contest for her late husband’s seat.

According to Baba Jamal, as a Muslim, he is surprised by the late MP’s wife’s decision, but as a democrat, she is free to do whatever she wants.

Speaking to GHOne TV, Baba Jamal explained, “When you die, you expect your family, your wife expecially if you have wives, we are permitted to marry up to four, your wife and children will be praying for you constantly through your transition from the world.

So as a Muslim, that’s why as a Muslim, you know I am answering this as a Muslim, I am surprise and as somebody who knows something small about the Quran, I am surprised”.

Baba Jamal added, “But as a democrat, she is free to do whatever she wants to do; it is her choice to obey the wish of Allah or to do what he wants to do.

As a muslim I don’t think it is a good venture, I don’t think it is right. I agree with most Mallams 99.99 per cent who say it is not a good thing, but as a democrat, I will give her will to her”.

His comments follow: Hajia Amina Adam, the widow of the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, has announced her intention to contest the upcoming by-election.

According to Hajia Amina Adam, her decision was shaped by calls from constituents, grassroots members, and elders of the constituency.

Hajia Amina Adam’s decision follows the death of the husband, who passed on Sunday, January 4, 2026, in the afternoon.

The widow of the Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, in a statement issued on Thursday, January 22, stated, “There has been a clarion call from many quarters in my constituency and beyond to step into the shoes of my late husband, who served the East Ayawaso Constituency with distinction. I have pondered over the calls from well-meaning members of the constituency, especially the elders and grassroots, and in so doing, I accept the call to serve my people”.

She added that although the decision comes at a difficult time, she was heeding the counsel of her community, including chiefs, imams, and youth leaders. “I want to assure them that I will not disappoint them,” Hajia Adam stated.
