The National Democratic Congress (NDC) have been cleared all five aspirants who filed nominations to contest the Ayawaso East parliamentary primary.
All five candidates have been cleared following a successful vetting exercise.
The vetting was held at the party’s Greater Accra Regional Office today, January 28, 2026.
Mohammed Ramme, the NDC Constituency Chairman; Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament; Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria; Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed have all cleared.
Speaking to the media, the NDC Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, stated, “We’ve also admonished them to go into the constituencies to do their needful by campaigning and ensuring that the right things are being done, just to ensure that what we started from the beginning will end successfully”.
Meanwhile, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Functional Executive Committee (FEC) had earlier refused the late Ayawaso East Member of Parliament, Nasser Toure Mahama’s wife’s request for a virtual vetting.
Hajia Amina Adam requested to be vetted virtually as she is currently observing ‘Iddah’, four months of widowhood seclusion in accordance with Islamic practices.
Speaking on TV3’s Ghana Tonight, Rashid Tanko Computer explained, “Indeed, the party leadership received a request from the camp of Hajia Amina this afternoon requesting a virtual vetting.
The letter came, we discussed it thoroughly and compared it to our previous activities. Our position has been very clear; it is only a candidate who is outside this country and finds it extremely difficult to come down to participate in vetting”.
“All candidates in the country are denied such privilege. We have never done it before. We don’t want to create another precedent that others can rely on and say the Functional Executive has varied its decisions. Therefore, I can also apply for the opportunity to do virtual vetting,” he added.
Also, Baba Jamal, an aspiring member of parliament for Ayawaso East, has said he is surprised by the decision of the late Ayawaso East MP, Mahama Naser’s wife, to contest for her late husband’s seat.
According to Baba Jamal, as a Muslim, he is surprised by the late MP’s wife’s decision, but as a democrat, she is free to do whatever she wants.
Speaking to GHOne TV, Baba Jamal explained, “When you die, you expect your family, your wife expecially if you have wives, we are permitted to marry up to four, your wife and children will be praying for you constantly through your transition from the world.
So as a Muslim, that’s why as a Muslim, you know I am answering this as a Muslim, I am surprise and as somebody who knows something small about the Quran, I am surprised”.
Baba Jamal added, “But as a democrat, she is free to do whatever she wants to do; it is her choice to obey the wish of Allah or to do what he wants to do.
As a muslim I don’t think it is a good venture, I don’t think it is right. I agree with most Mallams 99.99 per cent who say it is not a good thing, but as a democrat, I will give her will to her”.
