Tensions flared at a polling station

There were chaotic scenes at a polling station as Akua Afriyie, a former NPP parliamentary candidate for Ablekuma North, was involved in a near-altercation with a constituent.

In the viral video shared by TV3, Akua Afriyie was spotted being taken away by a police officer.

Some constituents expressed displeasure with her action, saying she was not supposed to do that.

A netizen claimed, the former parliamentary candidate, Akua Afriyie was removed from Ablekuma North voting centre after she threw punches.

However, the exact cause of the near-altercation with a constituent is yet to be determined.

Also, Hawa Koomson, a former member of parliament of Awutu Senya East, has said some opponents are trying to provoke her.

In a viral video spotted Hawa Koomson was spotted at the scene of a tense confrontation between some men and election officers.

However, Hawa Koomson stayed composed during the incident.

Reports suggest the tension was due to some delegates’ names missing from the NPP’s voters’ register.

Speaking to the media after casting her vote, following the tense confrontation, Hawa Koomson stated, “I am going to make sure there is peace in this centre; you have seen the noise they have started to make.

It was as if I was not there, that is the other side of Hawa Koomson, if they do anything, I will not respond, but if I respond, the election centre can’t contain us”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has arrested an NPP delegate caught recording his ballot paper during the ongoing primaries.

Reports suggest the NPP delegate was arrested at Ayawaso East after he was caught recording footage of his ballot, a clear violation of voting protocols during the exercise.

In the viral video shared on X, some other delegates were seen pleading with the Police to let the arrested suspect leave.

He was, however, placed in a police vehicle and driven away.

Isaac Baah Boamah, a member of the NPP Presidential Election Committee, has said no mobile phones is allow at inner polling zones.

Speaking on Citi News on Friday, January 30, Isaac Baah Boamah stated, “The electoral officials, per the guidelines, have been told that it is a walk-in exercise. The areas will be demarcated into three sections: the outer section, the middle section, and the inner section. The outer section is where the electoral officials will identify you using your ID card for this exercise.

“We have approved four forms of identification; any one of them will be a permissible voter’s ID, party ID, national passport, or Ghana card. Any delegate without an ID cannot cast a ballot,” he explained.

“I urge every delegate to go and look for their ID card before they come to vote. When you enter the inner circle, you are not supposed to go in with any foreign material, including mobile phones,” he said.
