Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that the party is very happy with the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.

According to Nana B, the Minority leader has been a very formidable leader for the NPP in parliament in their difficult times.

Nana B stressed that it would be in the interest of the NPP to allow Afenyo-Markin continue to work.

The NPP National Organiser further noted that some people are running their own commentary over claims that the NPP is planning to replace Afenyo-Markin as Minority leader.

Speaking in an interview on Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, February 2, Nana Boakye explained, “Hon Afenyo-Markin has been an outstanding leader, especially for us in these difficult times. He’s been very formidable in parliament. In fact, for me I would say that it will be in the interest of the party for him to continue his work.

“…The party is very happy with the work he is doing, how he puts things together, and his leadership. We are very happy with the work he is doing…People are just running their own commentary.”

His comment follows allegations that Afenyo-Markin did not work in the interest of the flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

Persons calling for Afenyo-Markin’s removal backed their call with Saturday’s Presidential primary, following Kennedy Agyapong winning the highest number of votes in the Effutu Constituency, polling 644 votes, while Dr Bawumia received 79 votes and Dr Bryan Acheampong 32 votes.

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin has revealed that Ken Agyapong is a true and trusted friend in whom he shares a code.

According to Afenyo-Markin, his relationship with Kennedy Agyapong remains unsoiled till time shall be no more, however, adding that NPP comes first.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that Ken Agyapong has passion, belief in accountability and has an unshakeable commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian.

Speaking during a programme in his constituency on February 1, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We salute Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for his passion, his firm belief in accountability and his unshakeable commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian. For me personally, this is a true and trusted friend, with whom I share a code. I believe that in life, loyalty to friendship is very essential.

“A man must not forget his friend because there is everything wrong with betraying a friend. My relationship with him remains unsoiled, till time shall be no more. But I equally recognize and he himself recognises, that our party comes first, “he said.

“I am therefore happy to inform you, my constituents, that yesterday he graciously, without any prompting, spoke with our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. It was a short but hearty chat, and he gave his commitment to support Dr Bawumia to win the 2028 election.

Also, Afenyo-Markin, during the NPP primaries on January 31, issued a statement over alleged claims of him influencing voters in Effutu.

According to Afenyo-Markin, the claims of his influencing voters and compromised ballot secrecy are entirely false and constitute a deliberate distortion of facts.

The minority leader stressed that he has been targeted by certain unscrupulous individuals throughout the beginning of the flagbearer contest.
