A former parliamentary candidate in Ghana’s Abetifi constituency, identified as Georgina Opoku, who began constructing a car washing bay and parking facility under the FlowerPot Interchange, has cried out to President John Mahama and Lordina Mahama.

According to the former parliamentary candidate, she obtained a permit from the local assembly in November 2025, following an official orientation session, but her construction work was halted in December 2025 after investing heavily.

She revealed that authorities revealed the space was reserved for disabled persons.

Georgina Opoku has since cried out to President Mahama and First Lady, Lordina Mahama, to intervene after her construction project, under the Flower Pot Interchange, was halted.

Speaking to Channel One TV, Georgina Opoku explained, “Somewhere in October 2025, the highways and assembly called me at the Assembly. They had an orientation with me for about two hours, showing videos of whatever they want at this particular space.

So after that, on 18th November 2025, I had a permit from the Assembly, and I have this site plan. And I’ve got my permit condition here. I didn’t forge this.

At least I stood as MP before in Abetifi. I wanted to be DCE. I am not, excuse me, a stupid person to build under a bridge. So I know the rules and regulations. That’s why I did all my documents before starting”.

“I had a permit in November, so my casts are in. And to cut matters short, somewhere in December, I was here. One of the assembly members said that this place belongs to Disabled people. I didn’t even know this particular building was for them”.

She further broke down in tears, saying, “The electricity — I spent 35,000. Electricity didn’t collect the money. They wrote what I’m supposed to buy, and I bought them myself with receipts. So, electricity and water alone I spend almost 50, 000 the blocks I had 2000 blocks.

The sand, chippings, cement, and workers that are paid, I have invested I cannot drag with the government. But I don’t think that if I cannot build here, I don’t think anyone else can build it. It is intended for me am a Ghanaian. So if I can’t build under the bridge,

The space is very big enough. It contains cars. This place can contain a washing bay because I spent the washing bay machine. One is 19,000 dollars. One machine alone is 19,000 dollars, and the room you have to buy that is 11,000 dollars. Because if you buy one, you’ll need to buy their ticket to come and install it. If you buy two, they will come and install it for you. So I was forced to buy two. I have videos and everything. I’m just pleading with the listening president. I know he’s a father. I know… I am just… Mama Lordina, please help”.

Some netizens reacting to the video stated, “We should allow you to create a washing bay under a highway bridge?

What do we people smoke in this country?”.

Another X user added, “Please ooo, why do you wanna establish a washing bay under an overpass?Won’t that cause another traffic Jam in that area?

You’re a Ghanaian, so you must be allowed to put up structures anywhere in the city without regard to the law?”.

An X user added, “It’s a drive-thru car wash. Drainage is factored into the design, and I’m sure the assembly did a traffic impact assessment before granting her a permit. This is a much better space utilisation model than the mess we see at our interchanges today”

“Since you can buy machines over $19k you can easily get a spot around and do your washing bay. Whats the obsession with doing it under the interchange?” a netizen added.
