The Minority Leader in Parliament and MP for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has detailed why the former Assin Central MP Ken Agyapong secured an overwhelming victory in Effutu during the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.

According to the Minority leader, it is no news that Ken Agyapong won in Winneba, as he has been helpful to the people of Winneba.

Afenyo-Markin further listed a number of the support Ken Agyapong has offered the people of Winneba over the years.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One TV on February 16, 2026, Afenyo-Markin explained, “You know the numbers and some of your colleagues are in a mischief mood…It is no news that Kennedy won in Winneba. He is my friend. Don’t waste your time on this matter. The gentleman has been very helpful to the people of Winneba.

“In 2012, on election day, when we needed funds for our clean-up exercise, he drove all the way from Assin to Winneba to support us. When I won in 2012, and we were in opposition in 2013, he gave Winneba 22 brand-new taxis, tear rubber, under a work-and-pay arrangement. He also provided a tractor which we sent to the rural areas and supplied outboard motors to support fishermen, “he said.

He continued, “It was not free; it was work and pay, and I paid, but the relationship started long ago. In fact, we are related. My great-grandfather moved from Effutu to Assin to establish a cocoa farm.

The Minority Leader in Parliament also revealed the bond he shares with former Assin Central MP, Ken Agyapong.

According to Afenyo-Markin, he has a longstanding personal and political relationship with Ken Agyapong, drawing attention to years of financial support and joint community development projects.

The minority leader revealed that Ken Agyapong invested $5 million into his business when it was struggling with no formal contractual agreement signed.

He added, “When my business ran down, Kennedy gave me $5 million; we didn’t sign any agreement. He took a risk on me by giving me that money. We’re more than a family; there’s a history to it. It’s not right to cut the relationship. It’s a relationship we have. If he won in Winneba, and so what? People should stop it, we have moved past that”.

The minority leader further revealed, “I’m constructing an ICT facility, which, being named after him, was conceived five years ago; it’s a big project”.

Meanwhile, Alexander Afenyo-Markin had earlier revealed that Ken Agyapong is a true and trusted friend in whom he shares a code.

According to Afenyo-Markin, his relationship with Kennedy Agyapong remains unsoiled till time shall be no more, however, adding that NPP comes first.

Afenyo-Markin highlighted that Ken Agyapong has passion, belief in accountability and has an unshakeable commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian.

Speaking during a programme in his constituency on February 1, 2026, Afenyo-Markin stated, “We salute Honourable Kennedy Ohene Agyapong for his passion, his firm belief in accountability and his unshakeable commitment to the ordinary Ghanaian. For me personally, this is a true and trusted friend, with whom I share a code. I believe that in life, loyalty to friendship is very essential.

“A man must not forget his friend because there is everything wrong with betraying a friend. My relationship with him remains unsoiled, till time shall be no more. But I equally recognize and he himself recognises, that our party comes first, “he said.

“I am therefore happy to inform you, my constituents, that yesterday he graciously, without any prompting, spoke with our flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. It was a short but hearty chat, and he gave his commitment to support Dr Bawumia to win the 2028 election.”
