The Chief of Assin Tetre-Nkwanta Nana Kweku Opare II has been crushed to death by a motorbike.
Reports suggest the 70-year-old Chief lost his life in an accident at Assin Praso on the Cape Coast-Kumasi Highway.
The tragic incident is said to have occurred on Sunday, February 15, around 20:00 hours.
According to eyewitnesses account, he had just returned from a funeral in his hometown and was heading home with some of his sub chiefs.
He attempted to cross the road to the other side when a speeding motorbike with no headlight knocked him down, killing him instantly.
Ebenezer Tettey, 24 years old, has been identified as the motorbike rider and is said to have seriously injured himself and is receiving treatment at the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital.
A GNA news report stated, “Eyewitnesses told the Ghana News Agency that the deceased, who resided at Assin Praso, had just returned from a funeral in his hometown and was heading home with some of his sub chiefs when the unfortunate incident happened.
While attempting to cross the road to the other side, a speeding motorbike with no headlight knocked him down, killing him instantly”.
“The impact was severe that it left the Chief with multiple fractures on his arms and legs.
Later, the Police were called to the scene and with the assistance of bystanders, the injured Chief was rushed to the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The motorbike rider, identified as Ebenezer Tettey, 24 years old, was seriously injured and is receiving treatment at the same Hospital”, the report further added.
In related news, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, is said to have escaped unhurt and is in stable condition after being involved in a road accident.
According to reports, the Ga Mantse was in an early morning road accident on Wednesday, which occurred at about 2:00 am at Pai-Katanga in the Oti Region.
The Ga Mantse was returning to Accra from Tamale after he travelled to the Northern Region on a private visit at the invitation of the Yaa Naa.
His visit is described as cordial and significant, and formed part of ongoing engagements between traditional authorities and was aimed at strengthening bonds of unity and mutual respect.
On his return journey to Accra, the Ga Mantse’s vehicle was involved in an accident. Sources close to the palace say that although the Ga Mantse was unharmed and remains in good spirits.
Unfortunately, the Ga Mantse driver sustained critical injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Reports suggest personnel of the Ghana Police Service responded swiftly and timely to the accident scene when they received the call.
