The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of four suspects linked to the carjacking and murder of Andrews Amankwa, the father-in-law of GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi.

IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno confirmed the arrest of four suspects during a press briefing on Monday, February 23, 2026.

According to the IGP, when the case was reported, he established a special team comprising the Ashanti Regional Commander, the Regional Intelligence Team, the Anti-Robbery Unit, and the Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team of the CID Headquarters to commence investigations immediately.

He revealed that on February 18, 2026, the first suspect, Akwesi Menu, was found in possession of the deceased’s Samsung phone. Two additional suspects: Kwadwo Amponsah, alias “Kamakaze,” and Emmanuel Kwame Appiah, alias “Tola,” were also arrested on February 21 and 22, 2026.

The IGP further disclosed that the alleged gang leader, Eric Antwi Doku, sustained gunshot wounds and later died at the hospital.

The IGP, during a press briefing on Monday, stated, “I’m happy to announce that we have arrested four suspects, including three members of the gang that was responsible for the attack”.

“As we always do when such cases are reported, I immediately constituted a team… to commence investigations,” he stated.

“Upon following several leads during the course of our investigation, we had our first breakthrough on February 18 2026,” Tetteh Yohuno noted.

“Suspect Eric Acheampong Adu, who sustained gunshot wounds during the operation, has passed on. Our investigation further established that this criminal syndicate, led by the deceased suspect, specialised in the snatching of pickup and Land Cruiser vehicles,” the IGP said.

“We will leave no stone unturned. By every legal means possible, we will continue to come after you. We will pursue you, arrest you, and bring you to justice. That is a promise,” he boldly stated.

“Criminals out there, take note of this: you can run, but you cannot hide,” he added.

The news follows reports that the father-in-law of Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of GoldBod, has been killed in an alleged armed robbery attack.

Sammy Gyamfi’s father-in-law has been identified as Karikari.

Reports suggest the incident occurred on Friday, February 13, when he was shot during a violent robbery.

Mr Karikari, according to the information gathered, succumbed to his injuries on Wednesday, February 18, 2026.

The late Mr Karikari was the father of Irene Amankwaa Karikari, the wife of Sammy Gyamfi.

It will be recalled that on December 21, 2022, Sammy Gyamfi married Irene Amankwaa Karikari in a semi-private ceremony in Accra.

Also, the NDC Regional Communication Officers and their deputies expressed their grief over the death.

“The 16 Regional Communication Officers, Deputies, 276 Constituency Communication Officers, and distinguished communicators nationwide join in mourning this loss,” the statement said.
