Dzifa Gunu, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Digital Centres Limited, has school Afia Pokua, commonly known as Vim Lady, in the media circle following her remarks on the Middle East tensions.
According to Vim Lady, under President John Agyekum Kufuor, Ghana suffered a crude oil price surge of up to $147 a barrel due to the Gulf War.
She further called on Ghanaians to pray for the end of the airstrike between the US, Israel, and Iran.
In a social media post, Afia Pokuaa stated, “Fact is, under President Kufuor, Ghana suffered crude oil price surge of up to $147 a barrel due to the Gulf war. Let’s pray these airstikes end soon, else…”
However, Dzifa Gunu, reacting to Vim Lady’s post, label her claims as lies, noting that the Gulf War started from August 1990 to February 1991, when the USA, under George Bush Sr., led a coalition of countries to invade Iraq after Iraq invaded Kuwait, arguing that at the time, John Agyekum Kufuor was not the president of Ghana.
According to Dzifa Gunu, the confidence of Vim Lady to misinform the public is the saddest part, stressing that such lies are unacceptable.
He further fired shots at Vim Lady, who is educated for spewing lies, and recommended that she get a research assistant.
Reacting to Afia Pokuaa, Dzifa Gunu wrote, “The confidence to misinform the public is the saddest part; she even said ‘FACT
Such unacceptable lies that can be exposed with just a Google search should not be allowed.
Now FACT is that the GULF WAR happened from August 1990 to February 1991, when the USA, under George Bush Snr led a coalition of countries to invade Iraq after Iraq invaded Kuwait.
Kuffour became president in January 2001, so how can someone who claims to be educated spew out such lies that do not even come from illiterates?
Someone needs to tell her to get a research assistant”.
However, a search on Google details that there were two or three Wars that are referred to as the Gulf War.
“The First Gulf War, 1990–1991. Often called the “Gulf War” or “Persian Gulf War,” this followed Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait and the US-led coalition’s liberation of Kuwait in Operation Desert Storm”.
“Second Gulf War 2003–2011: Frequently refers to the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq that overthrew Saddam Hussein, though sometimes this term is confused with the 1990–1991 conflict”, reports detailed.
However, the 1990–1991 conflict is the primary “Gulf War,” while the 2003 conflict is more commonly termed the “Iraq War” or “Second Gulf War”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the post by Dzifa Gunu stated, “There were 2 Gulf wars. The first one started on 2nd August 1990, and the second one started on 20 March 2003. The first one started when Iraq invaded and occupied Kuwait. The second was when America attacked Iraq ostensibly to find weapons of mass destruction (WMD)”.
“We don’t have 2 gulf war. What we have is the Gulf War and the Iraqi War. Don’t forget there were other wars in the Gulf before these wars, so should we call these ones 3rd and 4th? Because we have the Iran-Iraqi war, which also took place in the Gulf and other interventions”, a netizen added.
A Ghanaian wrote, “Reality is that Ghana must come to a place where these world issues don’t affect us that much. Every company puts measures in place so as to be able to do better in times of uncertainty. We all saw this war coming.
What measures were put in place? I just don’t want us to one day come and say because of USA Iran war, we are also suffering o”,
One more Facebook user added, “Critically speaking, a factual statement can either be true or false. A fact isn’t the same as truth. In this case, your ‘factual statement’ is completely false”.
