Alamzy Billa Nikyema, the National Democratic Congress(NDC) Member of Parliament for Chiana-Paga, has claimed the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) and it Presidential candidate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cannot even win an SRC election.
According to Alamzy Billa Nikyema, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and the current NPP lack the political strength needed to win public support, doubting the party’s ability to regain political power in the future.
The NDC MP stressed that NPP members still confidently speak about winning the 2028 general elections when the party is struggling to maintain credibility among Ghanaians.
Alamzy Billa Nikyema stressed that the NPP failed Ghanaians in government, which left public dissatisfaction with the party, adding that the NPP will face challenges in convincing voters at the grassroots.
Speaking on the floor of parliament, Alamzy Billa Nikyema stated, “These people failed us with audacity, they failed us with audacity, and the most bizarre part is that any time they are making contributions, they will tell us that when we win power in 2028. Mr Speaker, my question is with which party and with which candidate?
“Mr Speaker, your current party, and your current candidate, you cannot even use the party and your current candidate to win SRC elections,” Mr Nikyema said.
Meanwhile, the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has told members of the party their victory in 2028 will not be gifted to them.
Dr Bawumia stressed that the NPP victory in 2028 must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose.
According to Dr Bawumia, the road ahead for the NPP is demanding discipline, sacrifice, and hard work.
Speaking at the National Thanksgiving Service at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on Sunday, February 15, 2026, Dr Bawumia stated, “The road ahead will demand discipline, sacrifice, and hard work. Victory in 2028 will not be gifted to us. It must be earned, constituency by constituency, household by household, with humility and purpose”.
“While at that, the re-organisation of our party structures will continue in earnest to give us the stronger and well-motivated machinery required for election 2028,” he added.
Dr Bawumia further called on NPP members to put behind personal grudges, internal suspicions and factional lines that arose during the NPP presidential primaries.
According to Dr Bawumia, party faithful should put aside hurt caused by heated campaign exchanges as the party reorganises for the future.
The NPP flagbearer added, “Let us put behind us personal grudges, internal suspicions and factional lines, let us rebuild trust among ourselves, let us return to the values that build this party service competence and respect for institution and believe in the Ghanaian people.
This is the beginning of our journey to win back the trust and love of the Ghanaian people; our nation requires the best effort that each of us can put into it, which requires that we all give the best of our ideas, our sweat, and our sacrifice to build the nation ourforebearers envisioned”.
Dr Bawumia highlighted that reunion remains vital as the NPP prepares for the next political cycle.
Dr Bawumia added, “On this day as we celebrate and give thanks together, I want to ask all of us, from the bottom of my heart, that we forgive each other for some of the unpalatable things we may have said during the campaign”.
“I have been encouraged by the efforts many of you have made to reach out to your brothers and sisters after the elections. Though I know the exercise of healing is not yet completed, I believe we have started well, and I commend all patriots for the steps taken so far,” he added.
