Julius Debrah, the Chief of Staff, has recounted his long-standing relationship with former President John Agyekum Kufuor.
According to Julius Debrah, his long-standing relationship with Kufuor dates back to his days as a student at Achimota School.
The Chief of Staff revealed that he once served as the school father (senior mentor) to the former president’s son during their high school days.
Addressing members of the Accra Friendship Club at their Dinner and Awards Night held in Accra last Saturday, March 7, 2026, the Chief of Staff, while he was a sixth-form student in Achimota, Kufuor’s son, Kofi Kufuor, was his junior, and he served as his school father.
Julius Debrah said he never envisioned at the time that Kufuor would one day become President of Ghana or that he (Julius Debrah) would later serve as Chief of Staff.
He further disclosed that the bond he developed with the Kufuor family led to monetary gifts and occasional invitations to spend weekends.
The Chief of Staff stated, “At the time, sixth-form students had cubicles, and when juniors received provisions from their parents, they entrusted them to their school fathers for safekeeping. I was responsible for keeping Kofi Kufuor’s provisions”.
“He would ask about my background, my parents and advise me to be a disciplined young man so that I could become a responsible person in the future. Today, the rest, as they say, is history,” he said.
“As I grew older, I realised that when someone offends you and you choose to forgive them and pray for the grace to forgive, you free yourself from bitterness and hatred,” he said.
The Chief of Staff further called on Ghanaians to build genuine relationships beyond politics.
He highlighted that Ghanaians should cultivate strong and sincere relationships that transcend political and social differences.
Julius Debrah added, “In life, whether in human relations, organisations or in our pursuit of success, there are moral, social and functional boundaries that must be respected”.
“When we build genuine relationships based on respect and affection, they can last a lifetime and shape our future in ways we may never imagine.”
Some Ghanaians reacting to his story wrote, “The last time I joined a queue to vote for any party was December 7th, 2024. You’re there telling stories when you’re old enough to know what JAK and Nana Addo did to Rawlings and other NDC stalwarts from 2000 – 2008.
Why do you think your man was called diewuo?”.
“Imagine kuffour call him to intervene or help to stop certain political prosecutions”, a netizen added.
A netizen added, “There’s love in politics at the highest level, but the grassroots is all about hate because the highest level compels us to do unnecessary things, thinking we are enemies”.
“Nepotism being justified. ORAL is a deal-cutting platform for corrupt men and women”, a netizen added.
Meanwhile, Julius Debrah, a grassroots NDC loyalist from Obomeng Kwahu, holds a degree in Archaeology and Sociology from the University of Ghana.
He rose from business and tourism into national politics through resilience and strategy. Calm but sharp, he earned respect for linking local communities to national goals.
Rumour suggests he is eying the 2028 NDC flagbearership, his grassroots appeal is his strength, but uniting a divided party will test his political skill.
