Reports by the Data revealed that at the end of 2025, Ghana had 26.3 million individuals using the internet.
The report highlighted that Ghana’s internet penetration rate stood at 74.6 per cent of the total population at the end of the year, with the figures also suggesting that 8.95 million people in Ghana did not use the internet at the end of 2025.
The reports shared by datareportal.com detailed, “At the time of report production, Kepios’s analysis of the latest available data indicated that there were 26.3 million internet users in Ghana in October 2025.
This means that Ghana’s internet penetration rate stood at 74.6 per cent of the total population at the end of the year”.
“Kepios’s analysis of this data indicates that the number of internet users in Ghana increased by 2.1 million (+8.6 per cent) between October 2024 and October 2025.
And for added perspective, Ghana’s internet adoption rate (i.e. the percentage of the total population that uses the internet) increased by a relative 6.6 per cent (+464 basis points) during the same period.
But these user figures also suggest that 8.95 million people in Ghana did not use the internet at the end of 2025, suggesting that 25.4 per cent of the population remained “offline” at the end of the year”, the datareportal report added.
Also, the report highlighted that 41.8 million cellular mobile connections were active in Ghana in late 2025, with the data showing that many people use more than one mobile connection, which leads to mobile connection figures exceeding Ghana’s population, which, according to the United Nations, stood at 35.2 million in October 2025.
“Data from GSMA Intelligence shows that there were 41.8 million cellular mobile connections in Ghana at the end of 2025”, Datareportal detailed.
Meanwhile, Sam George, the Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, has announced a vision to achieve 70% 5G population density coverage.
According to Sam George, the government has directed the National Communications Authority (NCA) to accelerate the rollout of fifth-generation (5G) mobile networks to achieve a 70 per cent population coverage before Ghana’s 70th independence anniversary in 2027.
Sam George explained that the cabinet has taken a bold policy decision to democratise the deployment of 5G technology in the country.
He explained that in the coming days, the Communication Ministry will issue clear directions to the NCA to commence preparations for a spectrum auction.
Speaking at the launch of the 30th anniversary of the Communications Authority of Ghana in Accra on Wednesday, February 25, Sam George stated, “Our vision is to achieve 70% of 5G population density coverage by the 70th independence celebration of our nation, next year. So, the work is cut out for the regulator”.
“You have barely a year to roll out 5G using both the wholesale model and the network-led operations and achieve 70% population density coverage.”
“It is a steep aspiration, but I am more than confident in the resilience and abilities of the people who run the NCA,” Minister George said.
