A pregnant woman, Priscilla Sackey, is pleading with the Court to release her abusive husband, Richard Adjei, a 33-year-old, who was sentenced to six years in prison for assaulting her.

According to Priscilla, she only wanted the police to caution her abusive husband after he assaulted her twice, but the case resulted in a jail term.

Despite the abuse, she says she still needs his support to care for their child.

Eric Agyei is serving a six-year jail term at Kumasi Central Prison for abusing her in their marital home.

Reports suggest the couple live in the Ashanti Region and have two children together.

Priscilla Sackey detailed that the Judge stressed that the husband should not have assaulted a pregnant woman.

Speaking in an interview with Crime Check TV on YouTube, Priscilla Sackey stated, “I pleaded with the court to forgive him because I believed he would change, but the judge didn’t accept. He was jailed for six years. I cried and begged, but the court didn’t listen”.

“He smokes weed and tramadol, and whenever he does, he starts beating me. He stopped for a while, but when I got pregnant, he started again. That’s why I reported that he be punished so he would change. But when he came back, he asked why I reported him, and he beat me again, leaving me injured,” she said.

“But I am pleading with the court to forgive him,” Priscilla appealed.

Some netizens reacting to the development stated, “Ghana my motherland, you report your abusive husband to the police, he gets prosecuted and sent to jail, you’re saying you wanted the police to caution him, if e b caution you dey like why she no carry am go Pastor Ebo?”

“This country is just useless. Why can’t the state cater for the woman in these circumstances? How do you punish both the woman and the man for a crime committed by the man?”, a netizen added.

One X user added, “I support comprehensive help for abuse victims, especially women and girls. Economic vulnerability and social attitudes often enable abuse. Empowering young females through education, skills, and financial independence helps them escape abuse and rebuild their lives”.

A netizen added, “I understand that marriage and love create a bond, but people need to pay for their actions. They need to suffer the consequences. Needing him back after assaulting her?? It’s people like this who make it difficult to help people in such situations. Third person at the end??”

“Sometimes, a situation like this is delicate; it would have been better if he had been made to work and care for her through a third party while still separated from her. My thought”, an X user added.

An X user added, “There should have been a social protection program that she would have been enrolled on to prevent her from saying this ..  Mandated authorities can consider this to ensure a holistic approach to justice once it served”.

“Domestic abuse doesn’t warrant so many years. The first report is a warning. That is it. Why slap a 6-year. The law is being mishandled nowadays”, a netizen added.

An X user added, “This 22-year-old pregnant woman is just throwing real sense to some of our court judges. Sentencing her husband to six years’ imprisonment just for common assault. Now who’s is going to care for her pregnancy and the baby she’s expecting? Na the judge or gov’t.? Common sense oooo”.
