The information gathered suggests that Freddie Blay, a former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has been transferred to a medical facility for urgent attention shortly after being remanded.
Reports by TV3 shared on X stated, “Freddie Blay has been transferred from custody to a medical facility for urgent attention, shortly after being remanded by a Circuit Court”.
Freddie Blay was arrested and denied bail by the Akropong Circuit Court.
Reports suggest that Freddie Blay was arrested by the Ghana Police Service after a warrant issued for his arrest was executed on Monday, March 16, 2026.
The information gathered suggests the arrest stems from the former NPP chairman, who allegedly ordered a demolition order for a house under construction on a parcel of land at Kitase.
According to reports, investigators who later visited the site arrested five individuals who were allegedly clearing the land with the use of a backhoe.
During interrogation, a suspect is said to have reportedly mentioned Freddie Blay’s name and another individual, Nana Osae Ntifo I, also known as Dada, as the persons who allegedly directed them.
Nana Osae Ntifo, I was subsequently arrested near the police station. Later, Freddie Blay was invited by the police to assist with investigations, but reportedly failed to honour the invitation.
Reports by Citinews stated, “Charges were subsequently filed against him, but he was absent from court without explanation on the scheduled arraignment date in April 2025. The court therefore issued a warrant for his arrest, which was executed on Monday.
However, sources close to Mr Blay say he was unaware of the arrest warrant prior to his arrest.
According to the sources, the dispute concerns a parcel of land the former NPP chairman purchased in 1994, but which later became the subject of litigation”.
However, sources close to Freddie Blay insist he did not order the demolition of any building, stressing that the NPP chairman rather instructed that a bare piece of land be cleared in January 2026 to prevent the breeding of dangerous animals.
“The sources added that the complainant had earlier secured a favourable judgment at the High Court in Koforidua, but that ruling has since been appealed.
They further claimed that attempts to serve the complainant with processes relating to the appeal were unsuccessful.
According to the sources, aside from the ongoing appeal proceedings, Mr Blay was unaware of any other court case against him and had no knowledge of the arrest warrant until it was executed on Monday”, the report added.
Meanwhile, the Akropong Circuit Court has ordered the remand of Freddie Blay.
Freddie Blay is expected to remain in custody until his next scheduled appearance on 9th April, 2026.
