Irate NDC supporters lock up NHIA office in Ejisu

A video has surfaced of some irate supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) locking up the district office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) at Ejisu.

The NDC youths are protesting over the neglect of party loyalists in government appointments.

Reports detailed that the NDC supporters stormed the premises of the NHIA office and locked the facility, temporarily disrupting operations.

According to the individuals, they worked tirelessly for the NDC  ahead of the 2024 elections, but have been overlooked in the distribution of government positions.

The NDC supporters believe their contributions to the party’s electoral success have not been recognised.

In related news, Irate Tema Central NDC executives, some months ago, forcefully locked up the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Tema.

Reports suggest the NDC executives locked up the Tema NHIS office over what they describe as unfair and exclusionary appointments.

In a viral video shared, the irate NDC executives drove out all staff at the NHIS office and proceeded to lock up the main gate.

Benjamin Ims Djakumah, the Constituency Chairman, led the NDC executives into locking up the office over what he described as dissatisfaction over recent appointments to the NHIS and other public institutions in Tema.

He revealed that appointments were made without consultation with several qualified party members, being overlooked.

According to Chairman Djakumah, the leadership of the NDC in the constituency is unhappy over the sidelining of grassroots executives after they work to regain power for the party.

Henry Davidson Ayeh, the Constituency Secretary, supported the protest, adding that the grassroots feel they have just been taken for granted.

The Constituency Organiser also highlighted that the sacrifices made by party faithful in Tema Central must be acknowledged.

Meanwhile, Anita Desoso, a National Democratic Congress (NDC) stalwart, has once again lashed out at the John Dramani Mahama government over the treatment of members of her party.

The former Vice Chairman and Women’s Organiser lashed out that NDC members are crying over the lack of appointment, adding that strangers and the NPP members are being appointed by the government.

According to Anita Desoso, government appointments are being given to non-NDC members, citing her appointment as a board member of the National Population Council.

Speaking in a recent interview on XYZ TV, Anita Desoso stated, “If we want to win the next election or if we want our party to continue to be strong, we must do things to make members of our party happy. But if we do nothing, assume that we (the party members) are angels, and we keep sending NPP members to where they are not supposed to be, and NDC members keep crying, I think it is not the best.

“Let me use myself as an example. I have been appointed to the board of the National Population Council… if not for God, I would have left already. I would have left already if not for God and the party”.

She added, “I don’t know any person there, and so when we go for meetings, I just sit down quietly and look at them. I don’t know where they were picked from. At least if I knew them, then we would know how to discuss issues to find solutions.”

“You can just imagine, I was late for one of the meetings, and I could not get there early. I was called later, and when I went, I was given GH¢500. What will Anita Desoso do with GH¢500? Look at the number of people I support, and I’m being given GH¢500. As soon as the money was given to me, I gave it to my driver”.

“People are lamenting, why have they taken A while B is there, who can help us? In the elections, we did not just get up to win the election; people suffered. If you like, go to the Flagstaff House (Jubilee House) and see something. When I go there, those I know are not even 10 per cent. People are already saying they are tired, they are not going to vote anymore”, Anita Desoso added.
