Mohammed Abdul-Salam, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), has been exposed for allegedly demanding an 84 per cent overall adjustment of salary.

According to the Editor of the Hawk Newspaper, Charles MacCarthy, the NLA Boss is demanding an increase in salary from GH¢38,000 to GH¢70,000.

He also alleged that the NLA boss has cut worker salaries by 13 per cent.

Charles MacCarthy highlighted that the NLA board did not immediately sign off on the proposal of an increase in salary, telling Mohammed Abdul-Salam to benchmark his pay against comparable agencies and return with a clear justification.

However, Charles MacCarthy alleged that the NLA boss snubbed the NLA board, issuing a letter to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission to press for a review of his pay.

Speaking on Asempa FM Ekosii Sen, Charles McCarthy stated, “When he came to the NLA, the workers were fighting for improved working conditions, but he has not worked on that. Also, they have reduced the NLA staff’s salary by 13 per cent.

However, the CEO has demanded an increase in his salary from GH¢ 38,000 to GH¢ 70,000. The board advise him to search for the salaries of the State Institution for him to compare his salary with them to show the board whether he deserves that increase in salary or not.

However, he issued a letter to the Fair Wages Commission demanding that the increment be made without approval from the board. Even the board does not regard them in any way.  At the Fair Wages Commission, he has yet to receive approval, and we are monitoring whether it will be approved”.

Charles Maccarthy further alleged that the NLA Boss withdrew $108,000 for accommodation(GH¢ 1.2million) within 3 months upon assuming office without the approval of his board.

He further added that the NLA Boss currently pays himself $6,000 (GH¢ 61,800) every month as rent allowance.

He added, “Before the coming of the board, he had already withdrew  $108,000 (GH¢ 1.2million) within 3 months upon assuming office. He is paying himself $6,000 (GH¢ 61,800) every month as rent allowance; is he renting Jubilee House? Where in Accra would rent be $6,000 a month? Maybe we are the ones in the village. Even Jubilee House will not cost that amount”.

Some netizens reacting to the shocking allegations wrote, “Nyame nkoaa ne nokwafo. Gh¢ 1.2million on rents alone? Eeeii Oman Ghana hmm. This doesn’t mean the NPP is better. Please save us the noise, your finance minister is still on the run because of money laundering. The worst government in this 4th republic”.

Another netizen added, “If these claims are true, then it’s very troubling. Cutting workers’ salaries by 13% while doubling your own pay and taking huge allowances sends the wrong message about leadership and fairness. Public office should come with accountability, not privilege”.

One X user added, “The Ministry of Finance and the controller and account general department are the only two entities that manage salaries. So, straight up, you should know it’s a lie”.

“This is the greediness the bible talked about, how can you reduce their meagre income and increase yours? Some people are very wicked. I don’t even know what to say anymore about our leaders. Always enriching themselves”, a netizen added.

Additionally, another Ghanaian added, “I keep asking the auditing committee who has even evidence of scandals in the previous government, have they been caught or charged for anything? For me, it’s better if every political party in Ghana, PPC, HDN, CPP, comes to spend just 4 years and go, that’s all we need, we are jokers”.

One last netizen added, “Mahama, who rose through all the ranks of positions, became president, former president and president again, is still bad at leadership. What kind of person is that? Your own appointees”
