Ken Ofori-Atta, the embattled former Ghana Minister of Finance, is expected to appear before a United States immigration court on June 15, 2026.
Reports suggest Ken Ofori-Atta’s hearing that could influence both his bid to remain in the US or be deported back to Ghana to face criminal charges.
According to court documents, the case has been set for an individual hearing at 1:00 pm before Judge David A. Gardey at the Annandale Immigration Court in Virginia.
Ken Ofori-Atta’s session is expected to take place virtually.
In related news. Oliver Barker-Vormawor, a private legal practitioner and social activist, has shared new details about the release of embattled former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, from the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention facility.
According to Oliver Barker-Vormawor, his sources within the US Department of Justice have told him Ken Ofori-Atta was released on a $65,000 bond.
He further disclosed that Ken Ofori-Atta has been fitted with an electronic monitoring device on his ankle and can’t travel or move outside a defined parameter.
In a Facebook post on Friday, April 10, 2026, Oliver Barker-Vormawor wrote, “I have been looking a bit more into the whole Ken Ofori-Atta debacle.
And from what I am hearing from contacts within the US Department of Justice, he was released on a $65,000 bond.
The decision was based on health grounds, though he is being treated as a flight risk.
He has been fitted with an electronic monitoring device on his ankle; he can’t travel or move outside a defined parameter and is required to report regularly to ICE.
His next immigration hearing has been scheduled for 27th April.
What I still don’t understand is why the US authorities are sitting on Ghana’s extradition request. They received this 3 months ago. And the AG’s department has provided them with everything necessary.
The obstruction seems to be coming from the US State Department. I hope our Foreign Minister will ask them for answers.

His comments come following the Lawyers for Ghana’s former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, have confirmed their client has been released from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody following a judicial order.
According to his lawyers in Ghana, Justice Kusi-Minkah Premo of Minkah-Premo, Osei-Bonsu, Bruce-Cathline and Partners, Ken Ofori-Atta is home with his family.
In a statement issued by his lawyers in Ghana, it read, “On April 7, 2026, Ken Ofori-Atta was released from ICE detention pursuant to a judicial order. He is home with his family.
Mr Ofori-Atta remains fully committed to due process in the defence of his rights as guaranteed under the Constitution and laws of the United States,” the statement said.
The former Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta’s passport has been seized by US Authorities after securing bail.
This follows an earlier report of Ken Ofori-Atta being released by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
