Nana Akomea, a member of the New Patriotic Party Flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign team, has quizzed what would have happened if, under the Akufo-Addo government, power outages ‘dumsor’ were attributed to a python found inhabiting a substation.
According to him, the NDC National Chairman, Asiedu Nketiah, would deal with them.
Nana Akomea, in his submission on Peace FM on April 28, 2026, laughed off reports suggesting that a male and female python found inhabiting a substation at Ahodwo in Kumasi were responsible for recent power outages in the city.
Speaking on Peace FM, Nana Akomea stated, “I saw in one of the newspapers this morning that a python and its wife were found at a substation somewhere in Kumasi, and they were attributing the dumsor in parts of Kumasi to that. It’s ridiculous”.
“Can you imagine if these power supply issues were attributed to pythons during the NPP’s tenure? What Asiedu Nketiah would have done to us,” he added amid laughter.
Nana Akomea further fires shots at John Jinapor for attributing the erratic power situation to transformer maintenance works across the country, recounting how, in opposition, he rejected those arguments.
Meanwhile, Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hameed, former Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has compiled a list of twenty-one excuses the John Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) has given for the current power outages (dumsor) in the country.
According to Dr Mustapha Abdul-Hameed, anytime one power goes off, they should not bother, as it will definitely be one of the things listed below.
In a post shared by Mustapha Hameed on Facebook, he wrote, “List of excuses government has given for the current Dumsor:
1. Fault at Ghana Gas
2. Your Area Transformer
3. Fire at GRIDCO
4. Damaged Transformer
5. Faulty Transformer
6. Fault in GRIDCO’s Network
7. Planned Maintenance
8. Fault in ECG Network
9. Underground Cable Fault
10. Technical Challenge
11. Upstream Challenge
12. Emergency Maintenance
13. Burnt HT Pole
14. Cable Fault
16. Fallen Conductor
17. Cable Joint Failure
18. Feeder Fault
19. Burnt HV Cable

Las las las….
21. Pythons in Ahodwo
So anytime your power goes off, don’t bother, it is definitely one of these 🙏🏾”.
Also, Ing. Kwame Kpekpena, the Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), has rendered an unqualified apology to Ghanaians following the recent power outages commonly known as ‘dumsor’.
Speaking to journalists at a press conference in Accra on Monday, April 20, Ing. Kpekpena stated, “To every Ghanaian customer who has endured inconvenient and prolonged power outages, we sincerely apologise. We want you to know that we have heard your voice, and that addressing the reliability challenges is our singular operational priority”.
“We also acknowledge that, in some instances, our communication and response times have fallen short of expectations. This is not acceptable. We have taken deliberate steps to address these gaps, including implementing measures to enhance operational performance, improve response times, and strengthen customer engagement,” he stated.
“The challenges we face are real and complex, and in some cases stem from years of underinvestment, resulting in pockets of outages and low voltage. But we are not standing still. We have a plan, we have a schedule, and we are committing all our resources to execute it,” he said.
