Dennis Miracles Aboagye, Aide to Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced he will be exposing top government officials involved in illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the next few days.
Speaking on Breakfast Daily on Wednesday, April 29, Miracles Aboagye stated, “I will, in the next few days, mention senior members, very top, top officials, who are close to this government and are actively operating in the galamsey space in this country.
Our river bodies are dying; some are no longer flowing, and others have virtually come to a standstill, simply because of this government’s actions,” he said
In related news, Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, the Chairman of the Church of Pentecost, has lamented how illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, has forced the Church to stop traditional river baptism.
According to Apostle Dr Eric Nyamekye, galamsey activities have hampered traditional water baptism in some mining communities.
He highlighted that the Church of Pentecost have now shifted to synthetic rubber pools in several districts to carry out the ordinance.
Apostle Eric Nyamekye, speaking during his State of the Church Address at the 48th General Conference on April 22, 2026, highlighted the persistent destruction of Ghana’s water.
The Chairman of the Church of Pentecost stated, “The extensive pollution of water bodies due to illegal mining has hampered traditional water baptism in some mining communities, necessitating a shift to synthetic rubber pools in several districts to carry out the ordinance,” he stated.
Meanwhile, President John Dramani Mahama has confessed that illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey, involves individuals across political and traditional structures.
According to John Mahama, he will not kid himself that his own party people are not involved in the galamsey menace.
President Mahama highlighted that the fight against the galamsey menace will be difficult but must continue.
Mahama stressed that operators often shift allegiance when governments change, allowing the practice to continue.
Speaking during a meeting with Organised Labour at the Jubilee House in Accra on Tuesday, March 17, President Mahama stated, “Illegal mining has eaten into the fabric of our society. And I must say that it is not only a menace to our society, but it has involved a circle of traditional rulers, political party appointees and everything”.
“Even when one party changes, those who were running some operation, who went to one party, will go to the next party and say, now that you have come, come and take over this operation and let’s share. We, too, will be getting small; this is what we are doing. And so I don’t kid myself that we don’t have our own people involved,” he stated.
President Mahama further touched on the work of the anti-illegal mining task force NAIMOS, describing it as challenging, especially in communities where resistance is strong.
