Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah, popularly known as Benghazi, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) communications team member, has claimed that Ghana belongs to the Ashanti people.
According to Benghazi, all other tribes were given places to live in Ghana by the Ashantis.
He further claimed that the people of Ashanti are the true custodians of the country.
Speaking on Onua FM, Benjamin Gyewu-Appiah boldly claimed, “I want to tell the NDC that Ghana belongs to the Ashantis”.
Historically, other tribes were given places to settle by the Ashantis. They are the true custodians of this land, and others came to meet them here,” he said.
Benghazi’s statement has since initiated backlash on social media, with many users criticising him, saying, “Hw3 no kwasia tirie a 3si ne kwasia kon so. Enye moa, Okonfo Anokye na oko fa ba y3. Mo nkoa fr3 moho 3t3 s3 mo, 3nd3 mofr3 mo ho Adehye3. Ghana y3 Ghana dea 3nny3 asantefuo de3. Asante na anka Ghana ho. Nkoa te s3 mo. Tweaaaaa aputooooo”.
One X user added, “If you are an Asante born and bred in Ashanti, don’t pretend to be shocked about this long-ago indoctrination being made public shamelessly. The seed is planted into your head right from infancy, using the kingdom as a proxy. “Asante submits to no tribe than otherwise”.
“Who is that irresponsible thwart? A wasted sperm like that. I don’t blame him when you have an ignorant host and uneducated people spewing nonsense in the name of politics. It’s a shame, and this stupidity must STOP”, one X user added.
A netizen added, “He has forgotten that there is a saying that “We do not explain the origin of Ashanti. ‘ He does not know how Ashanti came to being. He should go back to ask”.
One X user added, “Sometimes we need to be reminded of our roots.
If not for anything, it is stated clearly that the Ashantis are bastard children of Northern men, specifically the Dagomba people, during the time of war, hence they adopted a matrilineal inheritance system.
Let’s not dirty ourselves”.
A netizen added, “Such a rat. Did you know when the Ashantis came together to form a unit called Ashantis? A lot of other tribes were on this land called present-day Ghana before that happened. Go and properly learn your history. Or you can’t read? Kwasiasem”.
A Ghanaian added, “The tribal politics in NPP are too much. They still don’t learn what sends them to opposition. Tribal politics brings about superiority and not competence in selecting a leader”.
A netizen noted, “This is what we’ve been preaching for decades now.
The Ashantis in the NPP don’t see you as equal to them; they feel you’re less of a human being.
They’re supposed to rule over you and not the other way round.
The earlier you understand this, the better”.
One last X user added, “Who’s this animal with no brain? How can you make such divisive comments? Every ethnic group in Ghana had their own territory before all were put together under one Ghana. So why would he think that the Ashanti who were in the interior own the country? Hmmm”.
