The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Abura Asebu Kwamankese Constituency Communications Office has fired back at the Obengkrom Chief, Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng, following his criticism of President John Mahama and MP Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
Akwesi Attakorah Asante, the Constituency Communications Officer, accused the Obengkrom Chief of engaging in partisan politics during the minority visit.
According to him, Rev John Ntim Fordjour, told farmers during the visit that the Mahama government had cheated cocoa farmers and taken money.
Speaking to the media, the NDC Constituency Communications Officer argued, “We are all aware that the reduction in cocoa prices is global, and the government has done the same just to ensure that the cocoa beans are sold to generate revenue”.
“In Ghana, the arrangement is that after cocoa is sold, the farmer receives 70%, and the remaining 30% goes to the government. However, under NPP, they were rather giving the farmers a smaller percentage,” he claimed.
“Before NDC left power in 2016, cocoa fertilisers were free, but when NPP came, they never did the same. They cancelled it, including bonuses,” he added.
The NDC Constituency Communications Officer further responded to claims by Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng that Felix Kwakye Ofosu ignored his messages.
He challenged the chief to publicly provide evidence.
He dared, “We want to throw a challenge to the chief to come out publicly and show the text messages he claims to have sent to the MP”.
Akwesi Attakorah Asante further accused the chief of engaging in partisan politics during the Minority’s visit.
“He did that because of politics. The chief came for his own personal agenda of engaging in politics, and not because he wanted the good of his townsfolk,” he noted.
“Our MP has really developed the constituency, including several donations to many schools, as well as facilitating road projects. The projects Kwakye Ofosu has done, Ntim Fordjour hasn’t done half of it in his constituency,” Asante fumed.
The NDC comments follow, Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng, the Obengkrom Chief in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Constituency of the Central Region, who did not hold back in his criticism of President John Mahama over his reduction in cocoa prices.
According to Obengkrom Chief, President John Mahama is “a cheat” who has failed to fulfil his promises to cocoa farmers.
He further declared that President John Mahama should step down for someone else to take over if he cannot rule the country.
Speaking to members of the Minority delegation and residents of Obengkrom near Asuansi, Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng expressed frustration, saying, “For us, the farmers, we have realised that President John Dramani Mahama is a cheat. We have seen that he is someone who does not fulfil his promises”.
“At this point, if he cannot continue ruling the country properly, then he should step down for someone else to take over,” he added.
The Chief further fired shots at the Member of Parliament for the area, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
He accused him of neglecting constituents after winning political office.
Nana Kassim Okyere Obeng alleged, “Our MP, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, is also deceitful. Before he became an MP, we used to communicate frequently, but now when I send him messages, he does not even respond”.
“Today, many cocoa farmers are suffering because of the reduction in cocoa prices. A lot of farmers are cutting down their cocoa farms and turning to palm plantations because they can no longer survive,” he lamented.
