Reports suggest a 17-year-old final-year student of Asanteman Senior High School has reportedly died after being electrocuted.

The information gathered suggests the SHS student was electrocuted while using a mobile phone connected to power during a rainstorm.

The tragic incident occurred at Meduma in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased SHS student has been identified as Harrison.

Reports alleged that Harrison was on a call while his phone was charging when lightning triggered a power surge, which electrocuted him.

The Ghana pOlice Service has since launched investigations into the incident.

The news update shared by SIKAOFFICIAL on X read, “A 17-year-old final-year student of Asanteman Senior High School has reportedly died after being electrocuted while using a mobile phone connected to power during a rainstorm at Meduma in the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, identified as Harrison, is said to have been on a call while his phone was charging when lightning allegedly triggered a power surge that electrocuted him instantly.

Police have since launched investigations into the incident”.

Some Ghanaians reacting to the tragic news stated, “The day lightning passed through my laptop (cos it was on sleep and my charger was plugged in) to my socket and my PS4, that was the day I respected lightning”.

One X user claimed, “The same thing happened to a 12-year-old girl in my neighbourhood last Saturday on the 9th of May, 2026”.

Another netizen added, “This thing is really serious, but we do it every day, hmm.

May his soul rest in peace”.

“Just last month, my mom warned me about using your phone while charging and the earpiece still stuck in your ear”, a netizen added.
