Ghana is not a broke country; come home – Ibrahim Mahama tells Ghanaians in South Africa amid attacks

Business mogul and philanthropist Ibrahim Mahama has called on Ghanaians in South Africa to return home following the xenophobia attacks.

Ibrahim Mahama detailed that Ghanaians in South Africa, where they are attacked, make no sense when there are several opportunities in Ghana.

The Ghanaian business mogul is quoted to have said, “If there are other people, let them come. There is too much opportunity here for them. If it is to find seed money for them, out of the 200, even if 100 are able to make it will be better. Ghana is not a broke country; it is just that we don’t know where to put our capital.

There are people who need just a small help. That help I got, that Ghc 10,000, I am looking for people…Just that we are not disciplined. I gave someone who was struggling money, and you’ll see that they want to spend it,” he said.

He added, “If this man if he does well today, my children can meet him, and he will tell them your father is a good man”.

Meanwhile,  Ibrahim Mahama has changed the life of the Ghanaian xenophobia victim Emmanuel Asamoah.

Earlier, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, announced that Ibrahim Mahama had pledged to fully sponsor any business startup chosen by Ghanaian xenophobia victim Emmanuel Asamoah.

In a post shared on his X on May 9, 2026, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa wrote, “Yesterday, I joyfully hosted Mr Emmanuel Asamoah, Ghana’s victim of xenophobia, who we relocated from South Africa.

We had a great time together at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

I am pleased to disclose that business mogul, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, has reached out to me and offered to fully sponsor any business startup of Mr Asamoah’s choice here in Ghana”.

Reports suggest Ibrahim Mahama has gifted Emmanuel Asamoah GH¢200,000 and is also offering to set up a cement distribution, including a construction hardware depot for him.

In a post shared on X, a netizen wrote, “Business mogul, Mr Ibrahim Mahama, has offered to set up a cement distribution, including a construction hardware depot for xenophobia victim, Emmanuel Asamoah.

Mr Ibrahim gifted Emmanuel Asamoah GH¢200,000 to enable him to take a one-month break to reunite with his family”.

In related news, the Minister for Foreign Affairs has announced that President John Dramani Mahama has approved the evacuation of 300 Ghanaians in South Africa.

In a post shared on X, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa revealed, “His Excellency John Mahama has granted presidential approval for the immediate evacuation of 300 Ghanaians in South Africa.

These distressed Ghanaians had earlier complied with the Foreign Ministry’s advisory and registered with our High Commission in Pretoria to be rescued following the latest wave of xenophobic attacks.

The Government of Ghana shall continue to safeguard the welfare of all Ghanaians, at home and abroad”.
