Joshua Akamba, a former National Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has told President John Mahama to punish people behind the arrest of David Essendon.
According to Joshua Akamba, the arrest of David Essendon has shifted focus from President John Mahama assenting to the legal education reform bill.
Speaking on Accra-based Metro TV, he stated, “The President has signed the legal education reform bill into law, which needs attention, but the country’s focus has been shifted to this guy. If the reason given is the reason why he was arrested.
“ I think the president must punish people within the police service for such a useless arrest. Whoever is in charge of this. Dumsor is back, and so what? Unless there is something more to this”.
He added, “What haven’t they told Mahama? Even me who has not been president, there have been several accusations against me. Dumsor is back, and so what? Ghanaians are discerning and know that the NPP left a problem.
Who doesn’t know that there was fire at a substation in Akosombo? So why do you make such a person popular?”.
It has been alleged that David Essandoh was arrested after he posted a picture of President Mahama with the caption “Dumsor is back”.
Reports suggest that David Essendon, popularly known as Sam Toys, the Agona West Constituency Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was arrested by a joint team of police and National Security operatives.
The information gathered alleged that security operatives arrived at Essendon’s residence in three vehicles and carried out the arrest in what was described as a “Rambo-style” operation.
Christopher Arthur, the NPP parliamentary candidate for Agona West, confirmed the arrest, stating that party members were shocked by the development.
According to him, prior to the arrest, the NPP organiser received a message from Detective Inspector Eric Gyan Aboagye of the CID Headquarters Special Investigations Unit.
The message reportedly read, “There is a case of publication of false news on 24/04/2026 in which you are involved. Kindly make yourself available. Failure to do so by 30/04/2026 will lead to the issuance of an arrest warrant”.
Christopher Arthur revealed that he initially dismissed the message as suspicious, believing it may have been sent by fraudsters.
The mother of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Agona West Constituency Organiser, David Essandoh, broke down in tears while pleading with the government for the release of her son.
In a viral video shared on X, the mother of the NPP Organiser was in tears calling on authorities to release her son.
According to her, the son has not committed any crime.
