Kofi Tonto, a political aide and deputy spokesperson to former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has dropped the names of some fifteen NPP members arrested under the John Mahama-led government.

According to Kofi Tonto, in just a year, these people have been arrested for only expressing their views about the Mahama government.

In a post shared by Kofi Tonto on X, he wrote, “Some of the people who have been arrested by the Mahama government for expressing their views. In just a year!!!

Meanwhile, Salam Mustapha, the National Youth Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has warned the John Mahama-led government that they will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable.

According to Salam Mustapha, if the nonsense doesn’t stop, the NPP will weaponise their support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them.

He made comments when the NPP paid a courtesy visit to the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

Salam Mustapha accused the Mahama government of targeting members of the opposition party.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, Salam Mustapha warned, “If this nonsense doesn’t stop, we will weaponise our support base and make this country extremely ungovernable for them”.

“We are sending this warning and caution to the government to release Abronye; otherwise, should anything happen to Abronye in custody, you’ll have us to contend with,” he added.

“And this constant harassment and intimidation of NPP people, if you people don’t stop it, we’ll make sure that we react in such a way that you will not be happy with us,” he stated.

“You have a country to govern, and we are here to support you and give you the best of advice from an opposition point of view. If you turn us into enemies, we will give you rebellion,” he said.

Also, Meanwhile, Henry Nana Boakye, the National Organiser of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has disclosed that the party will stage a mammoth demonstration against the Mahama government’s harassment and intimidation of opposition members.

Nana B highlighted that the Mahama government is trying to silence critics of the government by harassing and intimidating NPP members using state security agencies, but they will never be silenced.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Top Story on Wednesday, May 13, Henry Nana Boakye stated, “We are going to rise; trust me, in the coming days, we are going to stage a mammoth demonstration. We are going to have a series of activities. We can never be intimidated”.

” Political harassment “is a worrying development, and this attempt and this culture introduced by this government to criminalise and suppress free speech is quite alarming”, he added.

He further added, “There are so many important matters going on in this country, and what you can just focus on is to harass and politically intimidate your opponent”.
