A viral video has surfaced of an elderly woman being rescued through a car window in Accra’s floodwaters.
In the viral video, the family was captured escaping the floodwaters after their blue Toyota sedan was submerged.
The elderly woman was spotted climbing through windows and transferring belongings to a nearby pickup truck during heavy June 2026 rains; later, a girl also climbed out.
The man was later spotted picking up their belongings from the boot of the car after their blue Toyota sedan.
The video shared by We Love Ghana stated, “A man had to move his family through the car window and transfer them and their belongings into a pickup truck after heavy rainfall flooded their vehicle, leaving them almost trapped inside”.
Some Ghanaians reacting to the heartbreaking video express anger at ongoing infrastructure neglect and governance issues.
Netizen reacting stated, “We deserve all this and more. Until we’re ready to dismantle the classism, colonial structures, evil capitalistic elite, traditional chiefs who receive their payments and turn a blind eye to this we need more rain. 600 years of this suffering hasn’t changed our ways”.
One X user added, “rying to drive through a flood is always an uncertain thing. You can always get stuck in the mud and cannot move. What would have happened if it had still been raining?
He would have put his family’s life at risk”.
“Not trying to be funny, but maybe we all deserve what we are going through. Because if elections are held tomorrow, I can guarantee that people will wake up at dawn to queue and vote for these same politicians”, a netizen added.
One X user added, “Failed country, dirty liars, tribalists, dishonest and empty-headed humans moving about trying to take advantage of each other. Nothing works except a few corrupt politrick pot belly fools and protocol numpties taking advantage of the masses to enjoy the largesse of the country”.
A netizen added, “Years of systemic failure and neglect whilst most of us living in Accra have become so senseless and insensitive that we build on waterways, dump rubbish into gutters, choking and blocking every single water passageway. Who’s suffering now? Let’s all deal with this madness; enough is enough”.
One netizen added, “This 21st Century and Ghana is still getting flooded in some big, big cities, in fact, the whole capital city of GHANA.
Failed Leader!
Failed Authorities!
Shameful Citizens!
Afuomfoɔ nkoaaa!!!”
Meanwhile, Ken Agyapong, a former Assin Central Member of Parliament, has broken his silence concerning the flooding situation in Ghana, particularly in Accra.
According to Ken Agyapong, Ghana has been flooding since before independence, with 3,000 dead, 700,000 displaced, and $1 billion lost, not due to hurricanes or tsunamis.
He argued that the rains didn’t fail Ghana but Ghana failed itself.
In a post on X, Ken Agyapong wrote, “Ghana has been flooding since before independence.
3,000 dead. 700,000 displaced. $1 billion lost.
Not from hurricanes. Not from tsunamis.
From the gutters, we blocked ourselves. From waterways we built on. From warnings we ignored.
The rain didn’t fail us. We failed ourselves”.
