A video has been shared on social media with embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, as he attended his daughter’s graduation from DPS International Ghana.
In the viral video on X, Wontumi was seen dressed in a suit as he attended the ceremony.
Wontumi’s daughter later walked to her father after receiving her graduation plaque and warmly embraced him after successfully completing her A-Levels.
Chairman Wontumi was captured with a big smile as he hugged his daughter.
The video shared by a netizen was captioned, “Embattled Ashanti Regional Chairman of the NPP, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, shared a heartwarming father-and-daughter moment as he attended his daughter’s graduation from DPS International Ghana (DPSI) after she successfully completed her A-Levels”.
Some netizens reacting to the video stated, “So we dey here n people wish to die for people like this; they don’t take their children to schools which me and you take our children or siblings to buh rather those expensive schools since they have spoiled our schools”.
One X user added, “U people will follow these ppl blindly…u see say he put his kiddie in a good school whiles u sleep in a kiosk or single room to fool/defend dem on social media?”.
“Father steals taxpayers’ money to fund his daughter go expensive school while taxpayer ein child dey go syto. This country”, a netizen alleged.
One X user added, “Their kids will grow and tell the kids of ordinary citizens that their parents didn’t work hard enough to sponsor their them to good schools. For them, their parents were hardworking people”.
One last netizen wrote, “Interesting. Ordinary Ghanaians can’t afford to send their kids to good schools like these, and the AG want to set this guy free after stealing from poor taxpayers”.
In other news, the Accra High Court has granted the Attorney-General’s Office and lawyers for Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, until July 6, 2026, to brief the court on the progress of plea bargain negotiations.
It will be recalled that Deputy Attorney-General Justice Srem-Sai told the court that the prosecution filed a Notice of Commencement of Plea Negotiation on June 11, 2026.
He disclosed that Wontumi has expressed a desire to take advantage of the plea negotiation process provided under the law.
The prosecution disclosed that consultations had already taken place with lawyers for the accused, and both sides agreed to a brief adjournment.
The Accra High Court subsequently granted the request and adjourned proceedings to allow both parties to reach a possible resolution.
Wontumi’s case will return to the Accra High Court on July 6, 2026, with the prosecution and the defence expected to brief the court on whether a plea agreement has been reached or whether trial proceedings will advance.
