The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of six private security guards arrested in connection with the shooting incident involving former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo.
According to the Police, they retrieved five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol and a magazine.
The Ghana Police Service statement issued read, “The Ghana Police Service has arrested six private security guards in connection with the shooting incident involving Hon. Sarah Adwoa Safo, which occurred at Kwabenya on 21st June 2026
Subsequently, a search conducted has led to the retrieval of five pump-action guns, one Taurus pistol loaded with seven rounds of 9mm ammunition, an additional magazine loaded with five rounds of 9mm ammunition, and communication equipment.
Preliminary investigations indicate that Police personnel from the National Operations Directorate and the Intelligence Directorate, who were on special duty, received a distress call from a residence at Kwabenya and proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival, it was established that a ceremony was being held at the residence of Mr Tamakloe Safo Jehoshaphat alias Akofena when Hon. Adwoa Safo reportedly arrived and requested access to the premises but was denied entry.
Police investigations further revealed that armed security personnel at the residence allegedly discharged firearms during the incident, resulting in the injury to Hon. Adwoa Safo. Her vehicle was also found with multiple gunshot marks.
The suspects and exhibits have been transferred to the Police Headquarters to assist ongoing investigations.
Investigations are ongoing to locate and arrest all other persons connected with the incident”.
Earlier reports suggested six bodyguards of Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena, a younger brother of former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo, have reportedly been arrested.
Sources claimed the Police picked up the bodyguards on Sunday after the alleged shooting.
Citi News quoted the source saying, “I don’t really remember the time, but it was around nine thereabouts. Some of the bodyguards from his brother’s house, from Nana Kwadwo Safo Akofena’s house, have been arrested. The police just took them away. At the moment, we haven’t heard anything further and are waiting for the police to come up with something”.
According to the source, Adwoa Safo was shot in front of her brother’s residence but indicated that her injuries were not life-threatening.
The source disclosed that the former MP was in a vehicle when the gunshots were fired.
“She is very okay. She is at the hospital. The injury is not too serious, but an injury is an injury. She was in the car when she was shot,” the source stated.
“Some of the pellets caused injuries under her neck and on her chest. There was blood on her face because she had been shot and was bleeding before she was rushed to the hospital,” the source added.
The development follows reports that Sarah Adwoa Safo is receiving medical treatment following an alleged shooting incident at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo.
Reports suggest the incident occurred at the residence of her younger brother, Israel Kwadwo Safo, on Sunday, where he was organising supporters in connection with efforts to install him as the successor to his late father.
The information gathered from witnesses alleged that Adwoa Safo was present in the area when armed men opened fire on her vehicle.
It has been alleged that the gunmen reportedly discharged about 15 rounds of ammunition, with one bullet said to have grazed the former legislator near her neck.
Adwoa Safo was subsequently rushed for medical attention and is currently receiving treatment.
