A senior aide to former Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has fired shots at President John Mahama after he conducted an aerial inspection of flood-hit areas in the nation’s capital, Accra, following the heavy downpour on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to Monday, June 29, 2026.
According to Miracles Aboagye, Mahama was in the air checking on Ghanaians, whether indeed they have been flooded after seeing and reading in the news.
In a post shared on X, Miracles Aboagye stated, “Mr Prez was in the air yesterday checking on us and verifying whether indeed, we have been flooded the way he was seeing and reading in the news. Fair deal!!!
But today is Tuesday; it’s the day after the chopper trip….and the clouds are still gathering. Looks even darker, angrier and gloomier than it looked on Saturday night.
Dear Mr P, can we know the time for the emergency cabinet meeting today? To take specific, clear-cut decisions in ensuring the rains coming today and the day after today will not take our lives away like you saw from the air…
Mr P, can you kindly describe what you saw from the chopper and, based on the brief you have received from the anti-flood technical committee, what their solutions are in ensuring we would not lose our lives again in the coming days?
Mr P, the floods are wiping away the capital city, not just a few; the entire city is under siege. If they briefed you well, they would have told you that every day of rain in Accra sees a new neighbourhood flooding in addition to the existing list. Every additional hour of flooding moves the flood to another neighbourhood. The most “A-list” neighbourhoods are all flooding. Everything in your capital is under siege. So we need ANSWERS!!”.
Miracles Aboagye also provided solutions to Ghana’s flooding situation, saying, “SOLUTIONS, that’s what we need now, sir, not assurances, not commiserations, not empathy. SOLUTIONS!
You know why?? The rains haven’t even started yet. It’s just about to start. So let’s save the speeches and the empathy messages. We will hear and listen to those after the rains have passed, and we are done counting the losses. The human and asset losses.
It’s 8 am sir, the clouds ☁️ are angrily gathering, and some of us are scared- so scared we are wondering where we can hide.
CAN YOU KINDLY, SIR, TELL US WHAT YOUR SOLUTION IS!!!
Tell us what you are going to do to protect us today, not the future. Today’s rain must be survived first!!
I wait to hear from you, Mr P. Hopefully, before today’s rains also start.
Hopefully, you didn’t just come to check how many died against the previous years but truly have a solution for us.
I AM NERVOUS, SIR!! Seeing the clouds gather !!!”.
His comments follows, President John Dramani Mahama, who conducted an aerial inspection of flood-hit areas in the nation’s capital, Accra, following the heavy downpour on Sunday, June 28, 2026, to Monday, June 29, 2026.
In the viral video, President Mahama was spotted with a worried look as he watched the devastating effects caused by the heavy downpour.
President Mahama, in the video, pointed out some structures, which, according to him, were in the way of the floodwater and had to be removed.
The Minister for Works and Housing, Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, the Director-General of Ghana’s National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Dr Joseph Bikanyi Kuyon, and Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbe, who is also the Chairman of the government’s Anti-Flood Taskforce, were all spotted alongside Mahama during the aerial inspection of Accra’s flooded areas.
In a post on Social media, President John Mahama wrote, “The amount of rainfall recorded today is among the highest experienced in several years. Preliminary data indicates that approximately 140 millimetres of rain fell on Accra. By comparison, the highest single-day rainfall recorded last year was about 56 millimetres.
That aspect of the problem is beyond our control because it is driven by changing climatic conditions. There is the issue of human behaviour.
Whenever government begins removing structures built in waterways, some people accuse us of being inhumane. Yet when disasters such as today’s flooding occur, the consequences affect everyone. The irresponsible actions of a few individuals end up putting entire communities at risk”.
