In the viral video, the young lady recounted how she initially engaged in galamsey before moving into sex work due to the physical demand of the illegal mining work and financial pressures.

Speaking in the viral video, the young lady stated, “I ventured into galamsey, but it was too laborious, so I decided to go into prostitution because I was earning money and I went into it full time”.

She further claimed, “Some days I get 5,000 cedis”.

The young lady narrated that she later tested positive for HIV after meeting a galamsey operator, who allegedly promised her a gift that would be confirmed at a hospital.

She vowed to retaliate by spreading HIV among others, saying, “A galamsey operator infected me with HIV, and I will spread it to other men”.

Some netizens reacting to the young lady’s threats stated, “@GhPoliceService, We have a criminal case here of a young woman wanting to spread AIDs since no one sent her to do galamsey but to do something else. Wanting a soft life doesn’t come east. Hhhhmmm please help us here, thank you”.

A netizen added, “This is becoming like a social media trend, and all the relevant authorities are playing deaf to it💔…

How can people openly make such threats and we still allow them to walk freely??…. Eii, are we serious in this country??”

A netizen added, “Some of them are just clowns. I am sure she doesn’t even know the symptoms of it.

But as a rational human, you have to control yourself, and it will save you a lot. She just wants to trend, but be safe out there”.

“I think this disease is seriously spreading amongst the youth and it’s the duty of the government to create enough awareness. We don’t want any situation whereby Ghana as a country will be getting a sick population in the future. It’s sad this is happening in this nation”, a netizen added.

One more X user wrote, “People do even know when they’re committing possible crimes on camera. If she’s lying, it’s a crime under Act 30. If it’s true too, she can be charged with criminal intent under Act 30. We overlook a lot in this country”.

Meanwhile, the Ghana AIDS Commission has disclosed that higher HIV vulnerability in mining communities is due to the influx of migrant workers and transactional sex networks.

Under Ghana’s legal framework, one faces fines and/or imprisonment of up to two years, depending on the charge and evidence presented, for someone who knowingly exposes a partner to serious harm, including communicable diseases, without disclosure.
