A US-based Ghanaian military officer has said it is better to live in the United States of America without papers than to remain unemployed or working without a better salary in Ghana.

The US-based Ghanaian soldier, however, cautioned Ghanaians planning to travel abroad to avoid travelling as an undocumented immigrant without papers.

According to him, many foreigners living abroad are facing significant hardships due to their immigration status.

Speaking in a self-recorded video, the US-based Ghanaian military officer stated, “If you don’t have legal documents and you are living in America or any part of the world, you will suffer… but it is better to live here than to stay in Ghana without a job or a salary”.

The US-based Ghanaian military officer further revealed that many undocumented immigrants endure difficult situations in an attempt to regularise their status in the United States, including unfair treatment from their spouses.

According to the military officer, some undocumented immigrants even enter into marriages solely to obtain legal residency, only to face serious challenges later on in their marriage.

He further recounted a story of a man who allegedly lost his property to his American spouse because he feared the consequences of his immigration status and was unable to defend his rights.

Some netizens reacting to the US-based Ghanaian man’s remarks stated, “People don’t understand the whole Travel thing. Every day I ask, use the Kayoyos at Agbogbloshi as an example..

If u don’t know how Travelling is .. pls go there N ask dem !”.

One X user added, “Where is the news here? All he described is EXACTLY how men treat vulnerable women (in Ghana and abroad)when they have leverage over them. Hopefully,  they learn empathy and character building from the experience but we all know they won’t”.

A netizen added, “We’ve heard this saaaa. They should talk about how to get papers too. How they did it when they didn’t have papers and now have them.

That’s what we want to hear, but not “If you don’t have papers, stay in Ghana” blah blah blah”.

“Can you people stop doing videos in full military uniform? It’s so annoying and embarrassing. You are not the only one in that organisation. You are representing our whole force. It is so embarrassing”, a netizen added.

An X user added, “Most shallow minds are many in the comments section; you all have no experience of what he’s saying but talking lame; your homeland is where freedom is”.

Another netizen stated, “The man is tired. He for go relax small. We all know life is not easy anywhere. Do you know how people are suffering in Ghana? Even if you are illegal in the USA, you will never die because of a hospital bed”.

One X user advised, “If you’re planning to travel abroad, do it legally. Go somewhere you have the right to work and build a life. Illegal migration often comes with hardship, uncertainty, and sacrifices that can lead to regret. The legal route may take longer, but it’s worth it”.
