Some netizens on X are chasing the Ghana Police Service over the identity of the man arrested for allegedly slapping a pastor at the Ghana Police Headquarters.
It will be recalled that the Ghana Police Service, on August 13, 2026, announced the arrest of Sibamay Zakaria as the man who was captured in a viral video assaulting Apostle Daniel Junior Yaw Adjei at the Police Headquarters.
According to the Police, the suspect identified as Sibamay Zakaria is in custody assisting the investigation and will be put before the court.
The Ghana Police Service in a post on X stated, “POLICE ARREST SUSPECT IN VIRAL VIDEO ASSAULTING A SUSPECT.
The Ghana Police Service has arrested suspect Sibamay Zakaria who was captured in a viral video assaulting a suspect.
The suspect is in custody assisting the investigation and will be put before the court”.
The development follows the Ghana Police Service’s arrest of an Imam and a Pastor over separate videos containing comments considered offensive and inciting violence.
One of the suspects, a 35-year-old Imam, was arrested over comments he made during a sermon at a mosque in Ntensere in the Ashanti Region.
The second suspect was arrested over a video in which he made derogatory comments about Prophet Mohammed.
Following the arrest, a cleric was captured slapping the pastor from behind while cautioning him over his alleged remarks against Islam.
The police arrest follows Ghanaian social media users who fumed at the Police for allowing the pastor in handcuffs to be assaulted at the Police headquarters.
After the Police Service announced the arrest, social media users have challenged the police, claiming that the man seen in the viral video assaulting the pastor is not the same person who was arrested.
Some netizens reacting stated, “You know this is not the person that slapped the man. This will only afford him the opportunity to be released because he’s not the one. What about the officers who released the pastor to those criminals to advise him? We are not fools @GhPoliceService”.
Another X user added, “Be the Judge. How is this the same person ? I’m really disappointed in how the Police has handled this Mohamed issue”.
A Facebook user also added, “The suspect that you’ve posted on your page doesn’t appear to be the same person that assaulted the pastor.
EXHIBIT A: For one thing, the suspect has slanted shoulders and an oval-shaped chin.
EXHIBIT B: The man in the video who is seen to have physically struck the pastor while he was in your custody has SQUARE shoulders, is taller (around 6 feet or more) with a SQUARE-shaped chin and face.
He’s also more broad-chested than your suspect.
Indeed, these two men can’t be the same person”.
