Dr Kingsley Agyemang, the former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, has broken his silence following Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, Sabah Zita Benson, exposing alleged rots under his leadership during the previous NPP administration.
The former Scholarship Secretariat boss, through his lawyers, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, in a statement dated Thursday, August 13, 2026, stressed that Zita Benson has been peddling a false and misleading narrative.
According to the lawyers, their client performed his duties as Registrar with diligence, adding that their client has fully cooperated with ongoing investigations into the scholarship allegations.
The statement issued by Dr Kingsley Agyemang’s lawyers wrote, “We write as Lawyers for Hon. Dr Kingsley Agyemang (our client), the former Registrar of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat, in respect of recent public commentary by H.E. Sabah Zita Benson, High Commissioner of Ghana to the United Kingdom and Ireland, aimed at renewing public ridicule against our client.
Our client maintains that he executed his work as former Registrar of the Scholarship Secretariat with utmost diligence and therefore denies any wrongdoing.
Furthermore, as the High Commissioner herself has acknowledged, investigations have already been initiated into the allegations of corruption surrounding the awards of scholarship during the tenure of the previous administration. In the circumstances, the High Commissioner’s resort to the media to publicly berate our client rather than allowing the appropriate security and investigative bodies to discharge their mandate is regrettable and unwarranted.
It is worthy of note that this is not the first time the High Commissioner is making such wild allegations notwithstanding the pendency of investigations by state security and investigative agencies. Our client has not only availed himself to the said state security agencies but has fully cooperated with them with a view to ensuring that the allegations are thoroughly investigated, his name is completely cleared, and the matter is brought to a definitive conclusion.
Our client is a law-abiding citizen who remains focused on faithfully discharging the mandate entrusted to him by the good people of Abuakwa South and is firmly committed to the rule of law and due process.
He remains confident that in the fullness of time, the truth will prevail, and he will be vindicated”.
The development follows Sarbah Zita Benson, who has once again exposed the alleged irregularities uncovered in scholarship arrangements for Ghanaian students studying in the UK.
According to Sabah Zita Benson, she cringed reading the rot that happened under the former Registrar of the scholarship secretariat, Dr Kingsley Agyemang.
She disclosed that the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat were paying monthly stipends for whole families, including spouses and children, because one person was coming to study for an MBA.
Sabah Zita Benson provided documents containing the allegations disclosing that the children and spouses of scholarship beneficiaries also received medical coverage and other benefits allegedly worth about £90,000.
She also stressed that each of the children of the scholarship recipients received about £8,160 as financial support while accompanying their parents.
Sarbah Zita Benson detailed documents from the prior NPP administration showing such family-inclusive awards as part of broader mismanagement that led to over £37 million in student payment arrears.
