19-year-old Ahmed Mustapha has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment with hard labour by the Asokwa Circuit Court for armed robbery.
Mustapha pleaded guilty to charges of causing harm and armed robbery in connection with a July 21 incident, during which he inflicted cutlass wounds on the hands, arm and neck of a 25-year-old man before making away with his mobile phone.
Earlier, the 19-year-old was arrested by police in the Asokore Mampong Municipality for allegedly butchering a man with a machete during a robbery attack.
According to reports, police responded to a distress call at the Asabi Presbyterian Church area at about 12:20 a.m. on July 21, 2026, following intelligence about an ongoing robbery.
Upon arrival, officers found an unconscious man with severe machete wounds to his forehead, neck, and left hand.
An immediate manhunt for the escaping armed robber led to the arrest of Ahmed Mustapha, who was found with the victim’s phone and a machete.
In a statement issued by the Police read, “1. The Ashanti Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public that a robbery suspect, Ahmed Mustapha, aged 19 years, has been convicted and sentenced to fifteen (15) years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery and causing harm
2. The convict was arrested on 21st July 2026 by the Asokore Mampong Night Patrol Team following information that a 25-year-old man had been attacked and robbed of his mobile phone near the Presbyterian Church at Asabi:
3. Upon arrival at the scene, the suspect attempted to escape and hide in an uncompleted building but was pursued and arrested. A mobile phone belonging to the victim and a cutlass suspected to have been used in the attack were retrieved from the suspect
4. The victim sustained cutlass wounds to the forehead, neck and left hand and was subsequently conveyed to the KNUST Hospital for medical treatment. He later regained consciousness and was reported to be in stable condition.
5. On 27th July 2026, the accused was arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court Two, presided over by Her Honour Vida Achiaa Yeboah, on charges of Robbery and Causing Harm. The accused pleaded guilty simpliciter to both counts and was remanded into Police custody to reappear for sentencing.
6. On 10th August 2026, the accused was brought before the same court, where he was convicted and sentenced to fifteen (15) years’ imprisonment with hard labour
7. The convict has since been conveyed to Kumasi Central Prisons to commence his sentence”.
