The Western Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a 40-year-old gold buyer at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta in the Western Region.
The deceased gold buyer has been identified as Seth Kobina, who was shot in the chest during an attack on his gold-buying shop on Thursday, August 20.
The Police disclosed that the incident occurred at about 8:00 p.m. when armed men attacked the shop and shot Mr Kobina.
The deceased was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital for medical attention but was pronounced dead on arrival.

On 20th August 2026 at about 8:00 p.m., some armed men attacked a gold buying shop and shot the owner in the chest. He was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival. Preliminary investigations and CCTV footage identified suspect Emmanuel Amponsah alias “Vandam”, 29, as the alleged leader of the gang.
On 21st August 2026, suspect Amponsah was arrested at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges. He was subsequently taken ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital for medical attention, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Further investigations led to the arrest of suspects Christopher Seyiri alias “Cross and Die”, 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom alias “Wale”, 30, within the Agona Nkwanta area. Another suspect, Isaac Quayeson alias “Last Burial”, was arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his residence led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar and two cutlasses.
During investigations, suspect Quayeson identified suspect Amponsah as the person who shot and killed the deceased and also identified suspect Odoom as one of the suspects captured in the CCTV footage.
The suspects are assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to arrest other accomplices connected to the robbery and murder”.
In other news, the bodyguards of Awutu Senya East Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya East, Naa Koryoo Okunor, have been arrested for allegedly engaging in a gold robbery operation.
Reports by Crime Check TV GH on August 3, 2026, detailed that the suspects, who served as bodyguards to the MP, robbed a gold dealer.
According to Crime Check TV GH, the suspects allegedly used tactical uniforms resembling those of military and police personnel during the robbery.
The two bodyguards have been identified as Justice Kpappo Mingle, 31 and Justice Mensah.
The information gathered suggests Mingle, before the National Democratic Congress (NDC) assumed power, worked as a photographer before later becoming a bodyguard for the MP, while Mensah was reportedly a vulcaniser before taking up the same role.
Also, the victim has been identified as George Osei Tutu, a gold dealer from Bekwai in the Ashanti Region.
Reports suggest he was allegedly transporting gold valued at GH¢165,000 from Denkyie to Fomena when the suspects intercepted him, forcing him to divert onto a bush road and robbing him of the gold.
The two also made away with the victim’s car keys and other personal belongings before fleeing the scene.
Police probes have revealed that the suspects hid in a nearby bush, changed out of their tactical uniforms and later travelled to Adansi Asokwa, lodging at Adom Ara Kwa Guest House before proceeding to Kasoa.
According to the Police, their investigations were aided by a mistake allegedly made by Justice Mingle, who left his wallet at the robbery scene, which contained his identification cards and business cards, enabling investigators to trace him.
The Police detailed that they subsequently tracked and arrested Mingle at Nyanano.
During interrogation, Mingle allegedly confessed to the crime and led officers to Akweley, where his alleged accomplice, Justice Mensah, was nabbed.
