Her Honour Angela Attachie, a Judge of the Adenta Circuit Court 1, has revealed that threats from people like the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, forced her to get a bodyguard for her safety.
According to Her Honour Angela Attachie, she has been receiving hostile comments over her rulings, also from lawyers who are also politicians.
She further cautioned lawyers against publicly attacking judges over court decisions, warning that such conduct threatens the rule of law.
Speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the Law Faculty Board of KAAF University on Monday, August 24, 2026, Justice Attachie stated, “You don’t come to the court and come and command the judge to do as you please. The judge is the referee, and so once a decision is made, if you are not happy with what I am doing, you appeal”.
“I have been at the receiving end of some of these comments. Every time I make orders, people have issues with it. And so because of that, I have a bodyguard,” she stated.
She further added, “I’m a circuit court judge. Under our rules, I’m not entitled to one, but I have one now because of the threats from people like Abronye and stuff like that, who have never even been to my court, whose case I have never tried”.
Her Honour Angela Attachie urged persons who disagree with rulings to use established legal procedures, including appeals to higher courts, rather than public criticism or threats.
“.You go to the higher court, you go to the High Court, you go to the Court of Appeal, and then if they agree with you, they will change my decision, but making threats to our lives… It’s not the best; we are family people too,” she added.
In related news, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has said he has received more death threats following the conviction of businessman and former NPP Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi.
According to Dr Justice Srem-Sai, the two key witnesses were placed under protection following the death threats they received.
The Deputy AG disclosed that he and members of his legal team have also received threats, with the threats increasing following Wontumi’s conviction.
He revealed that the threats have intensified following Wontumi’s conviction, disclosing that two star witnesses and police investigators have all been subjected to threats.
Speaking on Joy News PM Express, Dr Justice Srem-Sai stated, “I have received threats, and it has actually gone up [since Wontumi’s conviction]. The two witnesses are being threatened every day, and even the police investigators who testified and all were threatened”.
“People threaten you with all manner of things, and we receive such threats every day. The mere fact that you are doing your work can cause someone to just hate you, and some threaten violence, death, and all manner of things,” he said.
“Some even try to carry them out, you know, but it is not everything that we talk about. Every day, someone somewhere is unhappy,” he disclosed.
Our witnesses are every day threatened with death. The two-star witnesses and even the police investigators… they threaten everybody. But I think it comes with the job.”
“But I don’t think it’s important for us to because if you follow that, then it means people will use such threats to secure freedom to continue to do that which the law prevents.”
“My attorneys receive such threats every day, and not only in this case, but also in other cases, murder cases, armed robbery cases. Judges receive their share of the threats. It comes with the territory.”
He further added, “The point I’m making is that there is a limit to how much physical protection you can get, and even that is never enough because human beings can do so many things.”
“So I would, for my own peace of mind and everything, I discount the physical one, even though yes, it’s good, and just so I can sleep, I commit myself to the hands of the lord.”
