King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse and President of the Ga Traditional Council, has said Ghana’s capital Accra would never have peace without the support of the Ga State spiritualists.
The Ga Mantse defended the spiritual traditions of the Ga people, arguing that their role in protecting Accra and maintaining peace in the capital must be respected and recognised.
The Ga Mantse cited the annual ban on drumming and noise-making, which is often misunderstood, noting that some people perceive the traditional practice as a form of fetishism.
According to the Ga Mantse, without the traditional spiritual authorities, including the Naya Wollong, Sakumo Wollong, Kaule Wollong and Gbogu Wollong, among others, Accra will not know peace.
Speaking on August 26, 2026, while addressing the media on his Sacred Crown Awards scheme, the Ga Mantse stated, “We put a ban on drumming and noise-making, and people feel that we are being fetishised and would refuse to accord us the needed respect and honour.”
“We know what we do as spiritualists that keeps this city and this capital safe, without the Naya Sakumonowulomo, without the Korlewulomo… and all the Wulomo’s that support this spiritual system, we would never have a peaceful capital, because we understand the metaphysical dynamics of the Ga State. That is why we have to call in order to recognise our spirituality, our African heritage and wellness,” he said.
The Ga Mantse further added, “We have realised that there are a number of award systems in Ghana and all over the world that this aspect of what deals with our Africanist and its heritage, our history, it norm, heritage has never been recognised. Our spirituality has never been recognised”.
In other news, the Ga Mantse has announced plans to arrest the parents of children found at the seashore during school hours.
According to the Ga Mantse, a child found at the seashore during school hours will be taken home by authorities, and their parents will be arrested.
He further revealed plans to criminalise child fishing activities, adding that parents who allow their ward to fish once the by-law is passed will be prosecuted.
The Ga Mantse made this known while speaking at the 2026 Kinka Blonya, an annual New Year children’s celebration on Thursday, January 1, 2026.
Ga Mantse stated, “All the traditional authorities in the Ga State have come together to actively promote education. A time is nearing when fishing by children at the expense of education would be criminalised”.
“We are at a point where prioritising education in the Ga state is non-negotiable. We are providing over 1000 scholarships; therefore, parents have no excuse to enrol their kids in schools. Let’s all come together and raise the Ga Children for the future” he added.
