Jerry Ahmed Shaib, the Member of Parliament(MP) for Weija-Gbawe and Deputy Minority Chief Whip, has reminded JOYNEWS that they owe the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
Speaking on the Asaase Breakfast Show, Jerry Ahmed Shaib raised wider concerns about media standards and accountability in Ghana following a disputed JoyNews report.
Jerry Ahmed Shaib stated, “When there is also the belief or the perception that people are being paid, it becomes more worrying that people have become demigods. They are becoming untouchable”.
According to Jerry Ahmed Shaib, JoyNews must not only remove the report but also apologise to the Minority leader.
“They don’t just need to pull it down. They need to apologise,” he said.
His comment comes on the back of Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who called out Multimedia group JOYNEWS, accusing them of publishing misinformation while ordering the media house to pull down their publication.
According to Afenyo-Markin, reports that he has been summoned by his colleagues on the NPP minority caucus are untrue.
The Minority leader disclosed that he was the one who summoned his colleagues for their Caucus meeting, as is routinely done ahead of every Meeting of Parliament, to strategise and coordinate our parliamentary business.
He further ordered the multimedia group to “pull down the misinformation on your website and correct the record”.

JOYNEWS had earlier reported that the NPP caucus had summoned him to answer questions concerning Sammy Gyamfi’s extortion allegation against him.
The report alleged that the NPP minority considered the allegations serious and is demanding answers from their leader.
According to reports, pressure from some members led to the meeting being scheduled for this morning, ahead of Parliament’s sitting later in the afternoon.
Afenyo-Markin, during the meeting, will be allowed to respond to questions from his colleagues and clarify the circumstances surrounding the allegations.
Reports suggest the main agenda of the meeting centred on the business of parliament prior to the recall, but the caucus had considered the allegations against their leader and would most likely raise them at the meeting as “other matters.”
