Dr Mohammed Amin Adam, Member of Parliament(MP) for Karaga Constituency, has criticised the Mahama government for abandoning the Agenda 111 hospital project in the Karaga constituency in favour of a 24-hour market.
According to Amin Adam, the 24-Hour Market is not needed in the Karaga constituency, as traders can easily sit in front of their houses and sell.
Amin Adam questioned why the Mahama government would prioritise a market over a hospital that would save lives.
The former Finance Minister is quoted as saying, “Traders can sit in front of their houses and sell easily, but building a hospital with equipment and doctors to save lives is not easy”.
According to Dr Amin Adam, he lobbied strongly for Karaga to benefit from the Agenda 111 project, but the government chose to abandon it.
“When the government distributed the Agenda 111 hospital projects, Karaga wasn’t included, but I lobbied for Karaga to benefit from the project. Look at it now, it’s halted,” he noted.
He further lamented that about half of the road projects in the constituency have stalled due to non-payment of contractors.
“They have refused to pay the contractor working on the Karaga roads, and because of that the project has halted. It was my wish that by this time Karaga roads would be completed,” he said.
In related news, a chief in Asebu, Central Region has questioned the essence of a 24-Hour Economy market, arguing that residents in the Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese District are predominantly farmers.

He further argued that none of his people will wake up at midnight just to buy koobi.
Speaking during a durbar aired by Mfantseman Radio shared on social media, the Chief stated, “A 24-Hour Economy Market is not something we need in our district. Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese District are predominantly agriculture district; we grow cassava, maize, and oranges. I don’t even know where they are taking the market. I don’t think anyone would wake up at midnight to buy koobi”.
Meanwhile, President John Mahama has announced that his government has allocated funds to complete 35 Agenda 111 hospital projects initiated by the Akufo-Addo administration.
According to John Mahama, the 35 projects are about 70% complete and will be prioritised for completion.
Speaking during his ongoing tour of the Upper East Region, President Mahama stated, “We are continuing the Agenda 111 hospitals. This year, we have selected 35 of them, 35 of them that have reached 70% completion and above. We have selected them across the country; we have allocations, and funds are available to finish the 35”.
“Next year, we are selecting another 200 that are 50% and above. But we are giving priority to districts that do not have health facilities, and so we are not abandoning the Agenda 111 Hospitals; we are going to continue and finish them,” he noted.
“In 2028, we will award another 20 for completion,” he added.
President Mahama noted that allowing the Agenda 111 hospitals to remain incomplete would amount to a waste of taxpayers’ money given the level of investment already made in the projects.
According to John Mahama, completing the hospitals would ensure that the resources committed to the Agenda 111 initiative yield their intended benefits for Ghanaians.
