Nana Obiri Boahen, the former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), urged President John Dramani Mahama to open his eyes and ears about happenings within his administration.
According to Obiri Boahen, several things within the Mahama administration are going wrong, warning that the development could negatively affect Mahama’s legacy if he fails to tackle them.
Nana Obiri Boahen asked President Mahama to take a cue from the late President Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s tenure and be guided by the lessons of history.
He recounted that despite the late Nkrumah’s significant contributions to Ghana, he was subjected to mockery following his overthrow.
He urged President Mahama to be extra careful in managing his administration.
Speaking in an interview on a YouTube channel, Nana Obiri Boahen stated, “So Mahama should be careful. Mahama is my elder brother, and he should be guided by the lessons of history.
A lot of things happening in your government are not coming from you, but they are happening. Open your eyes and ears and see what’s happening. Be extra careful because there has been a time in this country when people insulted Kwame Nkrumah”.
“Kwame Nkrumah did all he could do for the country, and when he was overthrown on 24 February 1966, the money that was printed with his picture was used as a song to insult him. I am a historian, and I am talking about this. To the extent that after the fall of Kwame Nkrumah, all his books were burnt. So Mahama should be very careful and extra careful.
“So, he should be extra careful. He shouldn’t listen only to those close to him because those people are only interested in what they will eat. He should try and listen outside. But if Prof. Mills were to be in government, a lot of the things happening wouldn’t happen today,” he added.
In related news, Omanhene Kwabena Asante, a Renowned broadcast journalist, has told President John Dramani Mahama that a lot of corrupt acts are happening under his government.
According to Omanhene Kwabena Asante, the Mahama-led government could face serious consequences if it fails to address alleged acts of corruption within the administration.
Omanhene argued that claims by members of the NDC that the Mahama administration has not been hit by major scandals do not reflect the realities on the ground.
Speaking on Asempa FM on August 19, 2026, Omanhene Kwabena Asante stated, “When I hear the NDC readily and quickly saying that there are no major scandals, a lot of things are happening. President Mahama will be amazed by the corruptible acts in this administration”.
He argued that the Mahama government’s anti-corruption credentials had already been weakened by decisions taken by the Attorney-General to discontinue some criminal cases associated with members of the NDC initiated under the previous administration.
“The NDC’s fight against corruption was weakened when the Attorney-General filed nolle prosequi in some cases being investigated by the previous administration. That has weakened their base, and this same government that has discontinued cases is now prosecuting cases of political opponents in court on almost the same issues,” he noted.
“They will be judged accordingly. They should look beyond the physical stewardship; there is a spiritual stewardship. There is a day coming when you will answer for all your deeds,” he said.
